Involving 6,000 dominoes, a pumpkin, flaming hay bales and a sh*t load of Argentinians! It's the most expensive in their advertising history, costing £10m...

    Fantastic IMO.

    Can be seen here.

That's a pretty penny for 90 seconds of footage.

    It's a nice ad though.

Clever (unless you remember Honda got there first) and pointless. It completely ignores the central problem Guinness have, stout is yesterdays drink for those need to consume it to improve sales in Europe.

    Mike.

    It's good, but I preferred Honda's attempt.

THat why the are giving so much of it away to sports clubs and other 18-30 age group interests as the rwc packs pocker packs etc. They know they are in trouble and are trying to do something about it.

Is it just me or does €10m not get much for you money these days? Its a good add in all but how does it cost so much?

I'd say most of the money goes towards the wages of the creative geniuses behind it.

If they'd pay me that amount of money i dont think i'd find it to hard to rip some one elses add off

Why don't they use the new(ish) "It's alive inside" one everywhere? It's brilliant.

EDIT: Just looked at the Honda one and it is way better

    But that one is everywhere!

Much prefer the Honda ad. Also no matter how good this ad is it won't get me to drink guinness. That €10million would be better spent going around pubs and giving people free pints of guinness.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm glad theres a new ad. The current one with the stocky little man bouncing off things is really annoying.

I don't like the new ad, it's too far removed from the product. It just makes me think "that ad must have cost a fortune to make" that shouldn't be the point of the ad. Likewise the other ad with the drumming, cymbals and men in helmets, except it's also ridiculous and too long.

But then what's the point in the dominoes one?

Can't Guinness think of something more original.. and spent £10m on that!

No point really, I guess their sales are just doing ****e and they think a new ad may improve them.

Great Guinness Ad, their best for years, also improved greatly here in Ireland by using the Pixies track Isla De Enchanta, but if you watch it on UK tv they use a different classical track called Spanish Dance No 6 by Enrique Granados, which doesn't give the ad the same impact. Maybe different marketing ideas for Ireland and the UK.

You'd swear that no one is drinking Guinness at all the way some people are going on here. Guinnesses overall amount and market share has dropped in recent years but it's still doing really well. It has also dropped less than most of the other major brands. Heineken, Carslberg, Smithwicks etc. have all seen falls in the last few years due to more competition in the market. Simply more types of lager and stout available. The beer market as a whole has seen a contraction in Ireland due to the rise of wine. Also demographics and a change in the way people are drinking don't help Guinness. Ireland is still a fairly youthful country and young people are more adventurous with their choice of beer and more and more drinking is done at home which is hurting Guinness mainly seen as a draught drink.

Overall they're not doing badly. As the population gets a bit older some will switch to Guinness and if any economic downturn hits that will turn some pub drinkers to Guinness also given thats it's still almost 50 cent cheaper in most places.
