Bank contacted me after some Purchases

Was a bit busy today online with my credit card,

Spent quite a large amount in 4 or 5 transactions,

This wouldn't be hugely abnormal for me and it was nothing crazy.

However, about ten minutes ago I got a call from the banks card services people.

Basically they wanted to confirm that it was me that made all these purchases.

Now just wondering if this is a normal thing, like I said I have used my card many times online and never received a call like this.

So is this a normal thing to happen?

Watchful security staff just doing their job. I've got them before, although I now ring them up in advance to let them know if I plan on spending a "large" amount.

The same thing happened to me once before, about a year ago... I think it's a good think and I would like for them to ring me to confirm purchases, more often, if anything.

Yes well if it is genuinely only to make sure that i am making the purchases then it can only be a good thing.

This is normal, I get calls several times a year, as I tend to make several large CC purchases. Nice to know they're doing their job!

It is, especially if you're with MBNA.

Their anti-fraud detection software flags when a number of purchases have been made in a different country within a short-period of time.

This is an indicative pattern as normally someone who steals a CC will try and make a number of smallish-purchases in a short time frame before the original owner discovers someone has knicked his/her card and has it canceled.

OP - You should be thankful that your CC company is so vigilant!
