Westport Nov 10th. What to do?

Hello,

I'll be in Westport for the Pride of Place awards at the Knockranny Hotel this Saturday. We'll be arriving in the afternoon. What's to do in the town for a few hours? Is it possible to walk to the sea?

Is there any public space or visitor centre open at this off-peak tourism time?

Westport House and gardens are a short walk from the octagon, down by the Westport Quay which has some nice cafes. If you continue round the inlet past the Quay you get nice views out to Clew bay and Croagh Patrick. The National Museum of Ireland - Country life is a half hour drive away outside Castlebar.
