Hi, in the market for a new P&S camera to complement a 350D. It will be replacing a Casio EXP-600, so the main requirements are (not necessarily in order of preference)
    Size/weight
Speed of "power-on-to-picture" and low shutter lag
    Ideally has a viewfinder
Ideally SD as I have some SD cards from the Casio.

Was thinking about the Canon Ixus 70, or the Ixus 850IS, although am wondering though if the IS is overkill on a camera this size, since I already have IS on the 350d if I need it. Am happy with the 350D which is why I am looking at turning from Casio to Canon for the P&S - main complaints about the Casio is the incredibly slow startup time, shutter lag and the fact that when it powers itself off, it remembers the previous zoom setting and HAS to go back to this setting when you power back on. Missed too many shots with this "feature" in particular. Open to other brands though.

Will be getting the camera in Japan most likely - the Ixus 70 is 125 euro there, vs 250 here
    Thanks for any replies
    Ken

I've been looking at the Canon Powershot G9 as a replacement for my DSLR zoom lens (I've vowed to go only prime from now on). It's a pretty serious P&S and expensive, but there are several things I like:

    IS
    6X Zoom
    Face Detection
    RAW capture
Flash Hotshoe that is compatible with my flashes
Built like a tank and feels very solid
    Small

I was gonna buy the G7 earlier this year, but held off because on RAW capture. This G9 looks like just the deal.
