from my 21st experience and that of a number of friends you shouldent worry about when your "gee-eyed" as you wont to get to decide when that is. The people buying you shots, dirty pints or just generally forcing pints/spirits down your throat will decide this for you.

Small talk with the family you hardly ever see, that way they all buy you a drink. If you're doing a function, then i'd try and stay un-drunk enough to be able to walk out of the place without falling over. If it's a few drinks at home or some other place and you're meeting the mates somewhere else afterwards, also see above. But, if you're family are party animals...

It's your friends who'll be carrying you.

My 21st I was out mapping for my thesis...
the girls took me out to dinner that evening though. And I got a candle in my slice of dessert.

I say have what *you* want...it's your birthday pet.
No point trying to be friendly with people you don't know.

I would be hitting "the heavies" at around 7:30 just to make sure I get in a good condition for having the buzz later in the evening. Before then I would stick to the Jack Daniels, the Absolut, the J&B, the mutha phucking Hennesey. These should have the added advantage of allowing "the heavies" to go down nice and easy.

Yep, i'm going to get sloshed very easy, i aint too much of a big drinker, only got drunk only 3 times in my 20 years and those times was in this year! I drink mostly at special occasions but it takes alot for me to get baked,:)

If its a function, the night will fly by faster than you will believe. I'd say avoid many drinks until 10ish, 11, when the night gets good. Seriously, you'd hate not to remember any of it.

You'd be suprise by how many people care about you (extended family) who you just dont see that often, so be nice :)

I went to the cinema and for food with a few close friends, then invited more people down to the pub and didn't get remotely "gee-eyed".
If you just want to get that drunk, don't bother with a function, sit in the corner of your room with a couple of bottles
Since you won't remember it anyway.

I just had about 15 friends over to my house, and we got rat-arsed there. Didnt mind drinking in front of my family (that time), as it was my 21st, and its kind of expected. Later, I was giving a girl a piggy-back home when i fell, smashing both our faces on the ground. She later became my girlfriend. Good times :)

You are not a heavy drinker so I wouldn't advise you to get drunk AT ALL the night of your 21st! You can obviously socialise without drink so what's the point! You'll enjoy it more, remember it AND make a good impression on everyone!! If you are hell bent on having a few drinks, just have 3 or 4 but wait until maybe 10:30 or 11pm to start! :)

As for my 21st, had a party/bbq at home, turned into a right session and me, my friends, and my brothers got into an absolute MESS, stayed in the house all night off our faces and then went to the early house @ about 7.30am to continue the party :D Oh happy happy times......

Liverpool and United were playing on the day of mine, kick off was at 12.30 IIRC. I was in the pub at half 11, stopped drinking about half 4 and went into town to get a subway. Home to get showered and dressed. Called to a mates house for a few tinnies and then down to the bar where my 21st and my uncles 50th were on. I was a state, i dont recommend it!!!

I was so nervous the night of my 21st I was afraid that nobody was going to turn up. When I was getting ready the texts started coming from a few people saying that they were sorry they couldn't make it that such a such has come up and all the other excuses so major panic set in. I got to the function room with my family and was there about a half an hour before anyone arrived so I was lashing back the bottles. The first person to arrive was my mothers uncle that I hadn't seen in years and that set me onto the vodka! Then my friends and the rest of family showed up about 8:30-9:00 so the panic was over. Ended up been a brilliant night. There was even people tryin to gatecrash my party from the pub next door. I had the manager asking me to point out the people that weren't invited so he could throw them out (I felt like a celebrity hahaha)! By the end of the night I wasn't that drunk I was happily tipsy.
I am so jealous of you having your 21st I wish it was mine again! You will have a great night! :D:D

Ah remember my 21st well. In the pub, all my mates, the place was packed out, some beautiful lookin yokes floatin about that night.

Unfortunately, that was the night in September when, after holding onto a 2-1 lead in the Euro qualifier against Slovakia we gave a goal away in the 90th. I was so absoloutely deflated by such a cruel end to the match and, barring a miracle, our campaign, I was like **** this ****e, Im going home, I was in no mood to celebrate.

Headed to Prague the Tuesday for the Ireland v Czech game on Wednesday. We lost of course, but when you are in an irish bar abroad and have been drinking since noon it isnt as painful as back home, so we drank some more, sang a rake of songs and groped an assortment of American students and strippers.

I have never understood the big thing about 21sts, for me its another less year that I can drink too much and generally have no responsibility. 18th birthday is the real deal, no more crap fake IDs and standing on your tip toes, sticking your frame out, talking deeply and geneally tryna act old in the offy :)

    Rough outline of my 21st

    Greeted guests and family
Got very drunk (zambuca always does that to me)
Dragged my lil sister's friend into a side room and made a lunge
Made a lunge at a work collegue, this one worked out
Fell over on the dance floor in the middle of said extended lunge, landing on top of the girl
Got right back up and continued on
Did my speech after 21 kisses, thanked my parents for having sex 21 years ago, called my lil sister a 'mistake'
Made a lunge at college mate, while she stood beside her boyf. (no recollection of this)
Helped another college mate get sick in the gents (no recollection of this)
Opened up all my pressies when I got home (surprisingly enough I remember this clearly)
Woke up the next morning and promptly got sick

Best 21st ever by all accounts. I certainly thought so too :D
