    The Twenties in Colour: The Wonderful World of Albert Kahn
    "Europe: After the Fire"
    Series examining Albert Kahn's ambitious 'Archives of the Planet' project, in which he sent photographers, armed with the world's first user-friendly colour photographic system, around the world to document all aspects of human life. When the Armistice was signed in November 1918, Kahn's team photographed the scenes of jubilation in Paris. Their cameras also witnessed the negotiations at the Paris Peace Conference and recorded the horrifying aftermath of four years of war.

Their films and 72,000 photographs offer a unique insight into the formative years of the 20th Century. Throughout the Great War, Kahn's photographers travelled throughout France, documenting the impact of the conflict on non-combatants in the towns and villages.

    Series examining Albert Kahn's 'Archives of the Planet' project, in which he sent photographers around the world to document major events. Defeat in WW1 led to the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire and its former provinces came under British and French control - though as the occupying troops arrived, the people of present-day Syria, Lebanon and Palestine were already entertaining hopes that they would be able to govern themselves. Kahn's cameras were present as these new nations were born.

    James Ravilious: A World in Photographs
    Alan Bennett narrates a documentary about James Ravilious, one of the great unknowns of British photography. Son of the renowned water-colourist and engraver Eric Ravilious, he dedicated his art to a small area of north Devon, where over a period of two decades he took more than 80,000 photographs. This collection has become one of the most comprehensive and poignant archives in the country, documenting an English world and way of life most people had thought long gone.

This episode documents Kahn's first voyage.

    Thoroughly Modern: The Snapshot Camera
    Documentary series about objects the Edwardians either invented or advanced. In 1901 George Eastman and his Kodak box brownie revolutionised photography, making it accessible to all. 100 years after Queen Alexandra used it to create memories of her family, The Sun's royal photographer Arthur Edwards uses the box brownie to take a snap of the Queen, and hopefully get an Edwardian picture into a 21st century Sun.
