Beach resorts in Malaysia/Singapore

I'm going to be in Malaysia in April for 3 weeks on my way to NZ. My bf and i have our trip pretty much planned out and have booked hostels, internal flights and tours in Borneo. The only problem is that we'd planned to spend 4 nights in a beach resort (we're stayin in hostels otherwise) as a treat for ourselves. We were thinking of doing this in Melacca. The thing is all hotels seemed to be booked up for the dates we're going. it must be a public holiday or something. I've had a look at other locations but a lot of other places seem to be vooked up too. Does anyone have any suggestions for beach resorts in Malaysia so I can look them up, see if they're available and well loacted? We'll be travelling from Singapore via the beach resort to KL. I'm annoyed now. I was looking forward to my nice beach break in the middle of all the hostels!

Your lucky that Melaka is a no-go, as the closest you'll get to a nice beach in Melaka th lcal swimming pool. The Melaka straits are the busiest shipping staits in the world and as such the water is not somewhere you'd want go swimming! The East coast is a far better plan. Tioman island, off the coast from Mersing is a really nice place, ABC beach for budget places or the Perhentian islands offf Kuala Besut further north are also really nice, April should be a good time to go too as far as I remember...

Go from Singapore to Tioman on the Ferry - then hop on a Berjaya Air service to KL. Not overly expensive.
