I saw an RS6 the other day with an Irish reg that had the same font as you would find in Germany. Liking all things German as I do and owning a german car I thought I would get one for myself but I'm having trouble sourcing one.

    Any help?

I saw a irish reg BMW with number plate surrounds from a German BMW dealer called Bavaria BMW. it was a nice touch, and not illegal like the German style plates.

Was just about to say that, any plates other than the regular Irish ones are illegal, and the Gardai are starting to crack down on them.

I know its illegal but its about as mild as you can get. Theres so many dreadful plates out there I'm sure I will be left alone at least for a while.

was chattin to a guard yesterday, said they're really concentrating on number plates and inappropriate use of front and rear foglights

About bloody time too. They're called foglights because they're to be used in the fog.

Why are German style plates illegal?(apart from the fact they don't have the IRL logo on them)

because they have a D logo on the side and two dots. they're legal on German cars!

There is a shop off Parnell Square that does them. With or without the county logo and you can fit any Irish reg in the plate.i saw them when i was buying a radiator

I have a Mk2 GTi 16v, registered before December 1990, and they are perfectly legal because the legislation specifying the European-style plates was only enacted from then on. And yes, I do have to point this out every single time I get stopped.

Get yourself a pair from http://www.dubmeister.co.uk/

I got my surrounds, Stadt and imitation tax discs from them as well. They initially sent out a yellow rear plate and when I said I had ordered two white ones, I had a replacement within days.

ha ha kidcapree i like your wheels i dig your user name but i dont care for your reg plates! :D

The whole typeface/font on german plates is different, plus its larger and because its a pressed plate more striking!

Its all a matter of taste i suppose!

Are these plates legal? AFAIK there is no standard for font size and type here. Or should there be the dashes so that it would look like 03-KK-1770?
