    Hi,

I am a final year business and IT student and I trying to decide what type of job I want.

I really want to learn how to be a successful investor and I have read a lot of books about this.

I am wondering what job would I learn the most about investing in? I am also starting a business on the side but it wont be able to support by the time I leave college.

Basically I need a job, so I think getting one where I can learn investing skills / entrepeneurial skills makes the best sense.

any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    thanks

    Mike

Do a postgrad in which ever of the courses you are most interested in.

    (in a reputable institution)

To be honest, you'd be better off going on the London jobs milkround and see how you get on. If you manage to get your foot in the door of the right bank, you'll learn (and earn) x10 more than any postgraduate degree.

Asset Management would give you the best idea probably. Portfolio managament teams would expose you to the research involved in identifying the financial strength of an org, future growth prospects and company management etc.

Portfolio management also makes you track the changes in performance of the investments and understand how different news releases and events affect the return on your investments.

Despite the name, Investment Banking doesn't really give you too much insight into the process of maintaining track of a long term investment.

Personally I would have thought trading/brokering would give the best insight into investment skills.

You'd learn quick because you learn the hard way and you see the market from the inside dynamics outwards as opposed to the other way arround.
