    Hi,

Can anyone recommend an application that can convert a DVD to AVI format? Or indeed any other format that will reduce the size of the file.

    Thanks.

    +1 for HandBrake.

Free, opensource and a easy to use. It's hard to beat.

However, I use a different application called MacTheRipper for ripping the DVD (that I own) to the Hard Drive and then I use Handbrake to convert to avi or whatever. Most of the guides and stuff on the HandBrake forums suggest that you use MacTheRipper for ripping for some reason. I don't know why but maybe it does a better job with it or something...

I use iSquint to convert these so I can play them on my iPod Nano.

I also use the Handbrake/iSquint combo. It's really easy and straightforward.
