    Hi foodies,

Having four friends for dinner at the weekend and am making a nice spag bol for mains (the other half's speciality). Wanted to do something snazzy for starters and dessert cos the mains is nice and easy.

Anyone any ideas of anything nice with an italian theme that they've tried and tested??

    Bruschetta starter

Toasted ciabatta loaded with tomato and basil dressed with olive oil.
If you have a ridge pan use that to make the toast.
Cut the bread at an angle, drizzle with olive oil and toast.
Rub raw garlic onto the toasted bread.
Chop fresh tomato, season and dress with olive oil and tron basil.
    Pile on the toast.

    Mushrooms bruschetta.

Fry a selection of mushrooms in oilve oil with a little butter.
When nearly cooked, season and add a little lemon juice - it helps bring out the flavour of the 'shrooms. A little chopped parsley or chive and pile on the toast.

I would do both, one slice of each for each diner - add a bowl of mixed olives and some marinated anchovies.

    Dessert - Tiramisu

    I do love a good Bruschetta :)

but spend the money on the ingredients and if you can get a fresh basil plant, tescos sells them and they can be very good
