criminal background check

    Hi,

I have a friend...cough cough... who has been offered a job, pending a successful criminal background check.

he had some trouble almost 8 years ago on a night out were a minor brawl took place. appeared in court and was told to donate some cash to charity i.e. no criminal record.
he was concerned this may show its ugly face again, not being too sure of how thorough the actual check is. so he decided to try find out what kind of info the gaurds would disclose RE this incident.
he went to the local station and explained the situation to the gaurd at the desk. the guard at the desk told him to come back with a valid passport and drivers license and he would run a check there. the gaurd did this and said there was nothing on his system but couldnt say for sure if this was as throughout as the actual check.

can anyone tell me if details of arrests or court appearances for events like this could be disclosed?
the job is not for the guards or health care (as these checks seem to require even more info like family member details etc).
the info regarding the background check just mentioned a 'criminal background check'.
is the check specific to convictions??

the problem is, he needs to hand in his notice to his current employer, before the criminal background check is complete. and he is totally unwilling to disclose this event to the employer.

    cheers

Sounds like he was given the probabtion act S.1 ss.1.

If the cops have checked and there is nothing, then there is nothing.

    Have a happy life.
