Firstly gonna catch up on some stuff I missed first time out.

The Wire (already halfway thru season 1)
    Friday Night Lights
    Battlestar Gallactica

Hopefully will be sparked a few more from this thread!

Ones I may go back on again

    Oz, The West Wing, Spooks

One's I recommend if you missed them previously (will only include shows where at least one season is completed)

    Dexter
    Jericho
    The Company
    The Kill Point
    Traveler
    Californication
    Californ

Watch 'Six Feet Under' if you haven't already.

Might have to watch 'The Wire' as i never got round to it after giving up mid-way through season 1.

And gave up half-way through Band Of Brothers. Need to finish that.

I'll have plenty to watch, i'm not worried!

I'm not 'worried' either, but the main concern I'd have with the strike is that some of the newer shows might never return, Pushing Daisies, Journeyman, Reaper, Life etc

I've never seen a single episode of either The Shield or Rescue Me, so I have those two to look forward to, at least. There's also a show that started airing during the Summer called 'Mad Men' which I've been recommended to check out.

Once I get through the Shield and Carnivalé I'll start on The Wire, The Riches and maybe Las Vegas. Then The Prisoner and Cracker, Boondocks and Dexter, Fist of Fun, Skins, maybe Ugly Betty and if I'm really stuck and the writers are still on strike I might force myself to sit through Heroes.

Don't rewatch! Watch something new. Based on the thread about people's top 10 shows, hardly anyone has seen the Wire,a show I can easily say is the best tv show ever made. If people watched it I wouldn't be surprised if it went right into their top ten, most likely at number one. But of course it may depend on what kind of genre you like.

I am going to start watching the Shield, there are a good few seasons of that so it will keep me going!

whoever hasn't seen 'the boondocks' yet, there's a whole season and a half to catch up on... great show.

    Definitely, top show.
Track down the original newspaper strip as well if you can. It's much more topical than the show (think South Park-levels of relevancy) so some of the humour is a little dated.
Last week's episode was a little over the top for me though.

Yeah I'm slowly working my way through The Wire at the moment. Something I haven't watched but seems interesting is Dexter. I'm also rewatching DS9 at the moment as I've only seen it all the way through once before.

As for recommendations watch Season 1 of Veronica Mars. Excellent TV.

It'll be two months before the episodes dry up I think, so we have about 4-5 new episodes to enjoy before then. And the Brits aren't affected so might be worth looking out for new shows on BBC\ITV.

Also, instead of getting sucked in to a new series and then being overloaded when your favourite series return, you could try checking out once off mini-series, documentaries, or short-lived series. Some suggestions:

    Firefly
Wonderfalls (if you like Pushing Daisies worth checking out)
    My So Called Life

State of Play (BBC version starring John Simm)
Ultraviolet (C4 scifi series starring Jack Davenport)
Our Mutual Friend (BBC Charles Dickens adaptation starring Anna Friel)
The Way We Live Now (BBC Anthony Trollope adaptation)
The Sandbaggers (Great ITV Cold War drama from the 1970s)

The (American) Civil War by Ken Burns
    Cosmos by Carl Sagan

"To follow knowledge like a sinking star..." (Tennyson's Ulysses)
