Apple store shipping disaster?

Every time I order something from the online Apple store it becomes a shipping disaster. The latest thing has been my order for Leopard. I've been tracking it all around Ireland and now it's being sent back to Apple. After phoning UPS it turns Apple never put what county I live on the box. And, after speaking to a customer rep at Apple, It appears I'm not the only one in Ireland who's been having shipping issues.

I was just wondering if anyone here has had a problem?

i ordered an ipod off them a while ago and it arrived prompt but iv just ordered a macbook(3-5days delivery apparently) but the delivery date is 16 days after the order date. im in limerick and as far as i know they are only coming from cork

in comparison i ordered a software hardware combo from the states about a month ago and i had it in my hand in 4 days(also free delivery)

PeakOutput, was your macbook built-to-order? They can take up to two weeks. And it's highly unlikely it's coming from Cork, usually England or the Netherlands. And if it's BTO it'll have to come from Asia first.

I would suggest that just after a new hardware revision of the MacBook almost all stock will be being shipped in from the manufacturer in Asia and that there will be a far higher than usual demand. When the most recent MacBook Pro increment came out the shipping delays approached a month in some cases.

As for Apple shipping - I've generally had a good experience.

i dont have a huge problem with waiting two weeks but when it says ready to ship in 48hours and 3-5 day delivery then thats what it should be and the page directly after you pay shouldnt have added another 7/8 days onto that time.....if it gets here before thursday week(iv got a gig i need it for) ill be happy

    It may be related but,
I've ordered two parcels from Apple Ireland in the last 3 months. There seems to be a bug in the software that Apple or TNT use to print labels.

If a line of an address is over approximately 18 characters, then a blank line is printed on the label in it's place.

In the case of the first delivery this resulted in the delivery company managing a pretty astonishing feat by finding me at the work address with just a parish name to go on.

Didn't see any way of contacting Apple to report the issue either.

Ya, we're over the 18 characters. Everything we order from Apple seems to go astray. I wish Ireland had post codes. I think that would make things a lot easier.

This was the number UPS gave me for Apple 1800882029
You'll get someone in Texas USA

i ordered leopard fron apple online store and it arrived promptly from UK. Any time ive ordered software it comes from UK, but hardware comes via netherlands.

Tip 1: check you account details on the apple online store BEFORE you order

Tip 2: Ring apple AFTER you order to confirm delivery details AND give them a mobile number for COURIER to ring you on. ( Apple have a mobile for you already cause they send an SMS when your order is dispatched to courier , but you may need to be contacted by phone call on another ) Confirm all this when you ring them.

Tip 3: ask the rep when you ring, who is the courier. I got TNT for a hardware delivery and it was a pain ! I always specify UPS now.

Tip 4: when the courier rings you , SAVE his Caller ID !!

Tip 5 : always buy apple products ( keeps the share price pointing upwards !!)

Tip 1, Ya, made dam sure is was correct
Tip 2, I called and ordered a printer a few months ago and confirmed it all over the phone and still went astray.
Tip 3, We live in the country and I work from home. I have stuff sent here all the time and know most of the couriers now by name.
Tip 4, They wont ring because by now if I'm not around they know to hand into my neighbor
Tip 5, I'v spent around 10,000 euro on Apple products since 2003. I wish I owned Apple stock.

I am very happy with all of the Apple products that I've bought. I just hate chasing my stuff down all the time from their online store.

I just got a keyboard from apple.

They screwed up the address and left out a few lines so the courier did not know where to deliver it. Has been in Ireland for a week but only got to my flat tonight...

Oh no. i wish i read this thread a few days ago. My MacBook was shipped yesterday and my address has a line 18 characters long. Would it be to late to ring and find the deatails of the courier etc.?

ok so its with ups now and i got their tracking number, according to their tracking they are delivering it to limerick,ie which is excluding the first two lines of my address and yes those two lines are more than 18 characters long so should i ring apple or ups or anyone got any ideas?

    thanks

Peakoutput, ring UPS and give them the tracking number. they'll probably appreciate being given the details.

I ordered leopard last week and it was delivered next day.

AFAIK, nothing ships directly from Cork. MacPros are built here, and then shipped to the UK, even if it is for delivery in ireland???? (Don't ask)

Anything built in Asia is shipped to Holland in pallet lots. It is then customs cleared and broken down into individual orders for Europe. The Forwarder (Kuehne & nagel I believe) then hand over the shipments to TNT for delivery. usually pretty quick once TNT get their paws on it.
Not sure what the story is with the Eastern European built machines.

@PeakOutput - I'd say your best bet is to ring UPS with the tracking number and see if they can intercept it at the next sorting office to get the label fixed.

I final got leopard today. It took nearly a week. I had to call Apple once and UPS twice to correct the mistake. They really need to fix this 18 character bug.

Thats going on since I worked up there 5/6 years ago. They said the they couldn't fix it. Wew used to have the same problem sending out fulfillments. Unbelievable for a computer company in this day and age.

    Feck..
I ordered a BTO Macbook, only upgrading the HDD (I opted to buy my own RAM from Komplett), which would appear to mean it'll be shipped from Asia rather than Europe.
Which would possibly explain why, having been quickly built and sent on the 10th Nov, that I'm not meant to expect it before the 26th.

Based on people's experience of shipping times, is this being over-conservative to avoid people calling up after 4 days? Or will I really have to wait that long for it?
I wish you could simply walk into the O2 Apple store and get the latest stuff, I'd have done so. They're still selling the Core Duo (not C2D) Macbooks

So it was sent on the 10th? Where does the tracking say it is now? Use Apecode, Apple's tracking is useless.

Don't mind the estimated date too much. In my experience it can take up to a week for it to get out of Asia but once it's passed over to TNT in europe you should get within 48 hours.

My iMac took 14 days from order to my door.

The "tracking" service is absolutely non-existent -a complete waste of everyones time.

The American call centre reps are useless: "Well you just keep doin what you're doin (...Waiting???...) and your order'll be with you by 19 November" -well thank you for reading to me the only bit of information that I'm actually getting on my screen, I'm glad I called

Until your order gets to UPS tracking is not happening (and once UPS have it, it'll probably be with you within the day anyway!)

My MacBook came from Shanghai, so I assume it would be coming from the same place. As far as I know they only make the desktops in Cork (and provide sales/support services etc.)

I'm getting pissed off with TNT. I saw from online tracking it had arrived in Ireland yesterday (Wed), I rang TNT this morning and they said it'd be with me this afternoon. As afternoon changed to night I rang again and they said it would be sent out tomorrow (Fri). What pissed me off most was guy on the phone the 2nd time who flatly denied that anyone would have told me it was coming this afternoon.

I have ordered stuff from apple in the past year and every time it comes to me, it comes the day before i am meant to receive it or on the day i am meant to receive it. I have never had problems. But if i go for months without ordering from apple i usually get a phone call from Walshe western (UPS) asking me where do i live, well , the van driver / woman in the office are asking me for directions to find me.

The Walshe Western van is a blue, or white, mini 16 seater bus, does anyone else get this bus?

I second the comments about the useless Apple tracking, and my lappy doesn't appear to have come via Kuhn and Nagel, so the appecode didn't do it for me either.

Finally arrived in the country last night at 4am (UPS have it, so I have real tracking as of yesterday), which should mean I'll get it today or tomorrow, which is ahead of their estimate, but still slower than I'd like (shipped on the 10th).
