hi guys , i wonder can you help me?i was wondering what the procedure is for signing off jobseekers benefit.

some friends say you just stop going in to sign on.

personally i would rather not have to go into the social welfare office ever again , ive had a few incidents with my fellow patrons in the past, and my dole officer seems to hate me.i am intimidated by him and would not ask him personally this question after the last time i asked him about a change of address , the way he spoke to me really angered me.

thanks in advance for the help

    They'll anger you alright.

Go in and tell them you want to sign off.

You should really inform them that you wish to sign off so as you do not have an overpayment. You do not necessarily have to call in in person, you can ring them and give your name address and pps number and the date you started employment.

i was going to call , will that be ok? im leaving the country so i think that will be easiest to call , so officially i wont be starting employment.

Yes it would be ok to ring them to sign off.

I sign on at the Dun Laoghaire dole office. The last few times I was there they had a sign in reception explaining that you can sign off online... but for the life of me I can't remember the URL.
Is there a chance anyone knows what it is?
I need to sign off. I got a job. (Yay!)

New to boards so replying to a topic similar to my question. I am on Jobseekers Allowance but am starting a new job tomorrow (Mon 27th Sept), its part-time 4hrs per day Mon-Fri which means I have to sign off. Would I get in trouble by waiting to sign off til Thursday as I'm not certain when I will start getting paid by my employer and I want to get one more payment from social welfare as I can't afford a week with no money. Thanks for any comments/advice

If you sign off late, you could work up an overpamyent, which would be a "black mark" against you, and which you'd have to repay. If you do it deliberately, that's potentially fraud, and really can't be condoned at all.

Sign off immediately (you can do it here), and ask your new employer when you'll be getting paid.

Thanks for the advice, I'm now completely off the dole and onto the revenue system instead, what a great feeling :)

my hours got cut last year to 3days a week so signed on for other 2 days...have finally gotten a job with full 5 days so am going to be finishing with old employer but not starting new job for a week after finish date.

Should i sign off straight away when my employment is finished or wait.

Firstly, congratulations on getting a full-time job. You need to tell them in your Local Office exactly what your situation is, i.e., you're moving from a 3-day week, to one week with no employment, to 5-day week. This should mean (if I understand it correctly) that you'll get one week full dole, before having to sign off.

You can use the sign-off link for when you are finally signing off, but to change to the one full week of signing you'll need to at least ring them to find out if you need to come in or not.

Is the dole paid in arrears? If you were to start a job tomorrow morning would it be right and proper to fill in the form on that day. Would you then still be due a payment the following Tuesday?

Hi I have just started a new full time job for the year having previously been unemployed for the past year after finishing college. I had some part time work back in June and was put on the X's and O's scheme by my local branch at the time. Since then I have received no payment from Social Welfare. I only began my new job on Monday. Obviously I am owed arrears for this time but I want to know can I sign off and still claim these arrears? The local office tell me I have to wait to receive a letter in the post before I will be able to begin to claim the arrears.. The nature of my work means I can't physically call into my local branch during the week now. Is it possible to make such a query over the phone? I work from 8 til 4 and don't really get a chance to make phone calls in that time. Do I have to wait until I have a week off in October??

Would greatly appreciate any help or advise here as I am rather confused on the matter!

I'd wait till you get the letter, I was on the part-time scheme for a while and they posted payments to me, quite possible they will just post you a check of your arrears. But I have no way of being sure of this, But I would not let it drag on as they are getting very strict on rules ( trying to stay in budget I would think ).
Also, the letter probably will have relevant info to. Good luck with the new job.

Hi I am starting a new job I only got notification of yesterday morning. I signed off last night as per. Now I will be owed back payment for this week How do I receive it.

As usual no one's answering the calls in the intreo office. (Irony of under staffed in an employment office)

Can anyone tell me how I recover said payment as I obviously can't get to the post office next week

Just wondering but I just got a job there, possibly full time, till February. I did one trial day yesterday, and am due to start working this Saturday or Sunday, where I will find out my hours and all that sort of stuff. Should I go down tomorrow to inform Intreo or should I wait till I find out my hours in case I am eligible for part time benefit? Also would I be eligible to collect next week if I am starting this weekend? Just very confused about all this as it is my first proper job and want to make sure I have money for Christmas week! :o Any advice regarding this?

I'm also trying to figure out Revenue stuff. God help me! :p
