I am getting an error message saying that 'Firefox is already running, to open another window close the open one first' or words to that effect.

Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

firebox is not running in the task manager.

But the process is not running in task manager, there's nothing to end. I turn off everything it know and try and identify what process it might actually be if its another process (corrupt, virus, etc.) and no joy.

I came across this problem in college. Can't remember exactly how it was fixed, but was a bit of a pain. Think the profile was damaged or something. Maybe uninstall FF, delete all it's folders and registry traces, then re-install.

When you open the Task Manager it will open in the Applications Tab, click on the Process Tab to the right of that & you should be able to end it there.

The process is called firefox.exe. Should be easy enough to find.

Lads, the process isn't there. I was in the processes tab and theres no sign of it.

Yeah, i did that, uninstall, gut the registry, reboot, downloaded the newest version, install and still the same. What profile was damaged? FF or my Windows profile?

The Firefox profile. Have a read here:

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile

BTW, would this problem have occurred in the last week or so? My FF installation was set to automagically update, and since the v2.0.0.9 release on the 1st Nov I am experiencing very high cpu% if more than 3 or 4 tabs open.

I did this again (logged in as administrator) but i cleaned the registry first and then deleted the folders, rebooted and reinstall .... sorted.

I've just found the repository for previous releases. I'll revert to v2.0.0.8 to see if my problem goes away...
