New Years Eve is a big load of sh1te anyway. Celebrating something that doesnt even exist.

You should do what makes you happy, as long as you leave no dead people in your midst.

Maybe you'll meet the love of your life whilst over there.. then it'd be worthwhile. Unless she's a ho and her pimp won't let her move to rural Ireland. That'd suck :(

It could all work out very well, better then being alone here IMO, I'd prob do the same myself if i was in the same situation

I got separated from my mates once in Edinburgh Hogmanay and met some other folks to celebrate the stroke of midnight with. Great time was had anyway.
Found my mates an hour later.

    Drei, Zwei, Eins... :)

Fair play to ya though. I always wanted to go to Germany but I'm not sure I'd have the guts to go anywhere alone.

Berlin's maybe a strange choice if you don't speak the lingo and are going it alone.
Other than that, I'd say off you go & enjoy yourself. I did loads of solo holidays before, cos I had lots of time off work & my mates didn't. You always meet up with people you can have a few laughs with.

    Go enjoy.

I was in Berlin recently, great city and the majority of the people there speak English anyways, so no big deal there...

If I could afford to go back to Helsinki on NYE I would..and I'd be going alone. Go for it. Travelling alone is pretty good, and to go to Berlin too. I hear its a great city.

Just got back from Berlin, if you are gonna do anything, go to the Pergamon Museum. Simply stunning.

i'd go..new years is worst night out of the entire year..completey rat arsed idiots spilling even more drink than usual on you! ....and bars/ clubs in towns fleece you in every way possible....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,525 ✭✭✭vorbis

I'll buck the trend and say its odd to celebrate NYE on your own in a different city. Solo holidays are fine, I like the idea and flexibility of them. However New Years Eve??? without any friends or family around. Are you sure you won't feel lonely.

Don't think I would do it myself and I can be a loner.

The best New Years I ever had was when I was completly alone on the edge of a National Park in NZ. Nobody around for miles and the sun was beating down. I got naked and covered myself in mud from the river. Happy Days :D

really? i thought you were bringing your wireless router on holiday with you.

I've spent every New Year's Eve since 2000 either sick or babysitting. I don't get the big deal. Although NYE 2009 should be fun, my sister's having her 21st then, as she turns 21 on Christmas Day. I think it's a pretty good idea!

Go to Germany and have a ball.

I'm actually in kinda the same situation, I was asked to take care of something in Amsterdam for work so I'll be there from the 28th untill some time after the 4th, personally I jumped at the offer. I hate all the forced excitment of new years and this year I'll be where no one knows me so I can just do whatever I want instead of being dragged somewhere I don't want to go to spend the night with a bunch of people who for most of them, I can't stand. As for feeling lonely, well I'll probably head out to a club for the night, so I mean, how lonely can you feel in a club on ecstacy with 2000 other people?

From the NYE Millenium right up to NYE 2003, I religiously purchased a bottle of whiskey and lay back in my flat listening to 'New Skin for the Old Ceremony'(Leonard Cohen) without fail - perversely enjoyed NYE, even looked forward to it...my girlfriend's not to big on Lennie so we're trying for something more sentimental this year...maybe Barry Manilow

I'm going to Sydney for New Years this year. I'm not going specifically to spend NYE there, just happen to be there for it. It's a load of sh!te everywhere. $180 to go and stand in a park down in Circular Quay to see a fcuking fireworks display!
G-friend is really looking forward to spending NYE at the Opera House whereas i just wish we could go to a BBQ or a pub..
I hate these 'special' nights, like NYE and StStephens night, when you HAVE to go out. They usually end up being the worst nights..

im going to Washington DC to spend new years with my beautiful GF and usher in the new year with some sexy time, as i did last new years in London..good times :D
Tho if i wasnt going there, no way inh ell would i go out for NYE. I prefer staying at home where drink doesnt cost E10 a pint, im not packed into a tiny bar with a million other people, and im not at risk of being glassed.

i'll be at a friends house getting very drunk.

year before last I was in Canada smoking lots of dope. I don't really have a preference.

New years eve is over-rated. People fight more, collapse more, more people get attcked and end up crying. Or hey, maybe thats just my end of the country. It can be fun, but ges over hyped

all you need is a pack of Johnnies and clean socks to have a good time on new years

I spent New Year 1993 alone in London, as I'd just qualified, hadn't yet got a job and couldn't afford to come home (flights to Dublin were £250 sterling!). It was boring and lonely, but not so bad when all the friends and boyfriend at the time returned a couple of days later.
