black satin paint, (not matt black) use a plastic primer first.,, if you know of any paint shops they can make you up a paint that would be matt finish but with a little glos in it to give it resistance to stratching.,

oh and rub the gun down with scotch pads or light sandpaper before you paint it.,;)

if your going with the satin black finish, it would be worth your while calling into a motor factor or motor accessory shop, they would have satin black in aerosol cans, you'll only need to use plastic primer if your AEG is ABS other wise a normal primer will do , if you decide to use one at all. Definately give it a light rub first with some very fine paper or the finest grade of wire wool,

Have yuo considered Krylon? this might be the perfect opportunity to give it a go( and all us m4 a1 owners would like to see it done i'm sure) best of luck with it.

You could also go for Black Krylon paint as well, thats what they use to cammo up real steel.

I'd need to look at it directly but from looking at the pics it looks like an adhesion issue. The barrell piece looks to be extruded aluminium and like all aluminium it should be either etched/ chromated/ anodised etc. prior to painting - otherwise it just oxidises and the paint film simply falls off.
Using various primers over this will not solve the problem - simply cover it.

The body is a metal casting - pribably contains alot of aluminium and is going to give similar type adhesion issues eventually (depending on use and environment)

You could just lightly abrade the entire surface (scotchpad) to ensure subsequent paint adhesion and work away with krylon or similar (anything from an aerosol is just a cellulose/acrylic type - and nothing too special). Krylon make many different types of coating - the aerosol camo type is bog standard with no special features over any other matt aerosol you'd probably find on the market. I've just looked up the m.s.d.s. on krylon camo aerosols and this confirms the basic makeup, infact it's actually made by Sherwin -Williams (an american company) who have an Irish manufacturing office here - F.S.W. in Virginia, Co.Cavan. Dont know if they stock it here but they sell many of the higher quality Sherwin-Williams paints in Ireland. It may be worth giving them a call for all you who are trying to source the stuff from overseas.

Personally I'd try remove as much of the loose paint as possible, without damaging the metalwork - dont go sanding with anything rougher than say 400 or 600 grit paper. If you have access to some different solvents you could try them but be very very careful as some will attack the plastic like mad! I wouldnt recomment stripper as they are also too aggressive and if caustic based will attck the metal (loves aluminium)
It needs a very light coat of an etch primer to get adhesion on the alumium and the paint with something tough (2-pack matt acrylic if you can get it)
If you can paint (must be sprayed) yourself just let me know and I can get you enough to DIY.

hope this is of some help, let me know if I can be of any assistance.
