Is it true all PS3 games are region free?

I'm off to New York in January and it might be good to pick up a couple over there is they are region free. Can anyone confirm this?

    thanks!

So far everything is region free, and from i gather it'll stay that way. Midway tried to make stranglehold region locked, but sony kicked them in the ass. Me i've bought a few games from Asia and had no problems.

All PS3 games are region free. The majority of blu-ray movies are too, but check before buying. Theres a thread over on AV forums where you can find what movies will and won't work. Blu ray movies are ridiculously cheap in the states compared to here.

Took advantage of this myself in NY last month,

Games at $59.99 work out at around 42 Euro.

That coupled with Toys'R'Us having an insane 3 for 2 offer while i was there.

I was able to get 6 full price games for 160 Euro,

    Madness really.

My Guitar Hero III arrived this morning from the US and it works perfectly on my PS3, despite saying region 1 etc. etc. on it. If you have a HD TV it isn't an issue. You only need to be careful if you have a really old standard TV, though I can't remember having a TV in the last 12 or so years that wasn't capable of broadcasting an NTSC signal.

Some people have been using www.videogameplus.ca to get their import PS3 games. they're about ~€50 + €5 shipping per game. €15 cheaper than in store here. They say the shipping is quite fast too.

Some other places are www.dvdboxoffice.com with free shipping. I haven't gotten any games from them before but I have purchased DVD's a long time back from it.

www.blahdvd.com offer PS3 games €10 - €20 cheaper than in store. I think they charge to ship outside UK

http://www.cdwow.ie/ps3_cat.php are about €58 for new games. From my experience buying music from them their shipping can take a while sometimes.

not sure how long the region free gaming thing is going to last.

Sony seem to have region locked the US version of the "Uncharted: Drakes Fortune" demo.

I'm baffled as to why they'd do this when every other demo is not region locked , even the Jpap version of the GT5 Prologue demo wasn't.

Apparently it's a bug and Sony have been on to Naughty Dog about it. So I don't think it's from a Sony directive if it is region locked.

Didn't someone say that Stranglehold was originally going to be region locked until Sony had a quiet word with the developers. Sony are all for region free gaming apparently. I don't see why they wouldn't be, sales are sales.

Why do they not like companies shipping these games overseas?

    See Lik-sang,

And also play-asia arent allowed to ship them overseas while they ship region free 360 games no problem

    Irt was indeed a mistake

I can't see them dumping region-free gaming anytime soon, after being lauded for it from the get-go.

Hell they even seem okay with people in the EU having fake US accounts. Why would they deliberately make a demo region locked? Surely the more people that play the demo, the more potential purchases they have.

yeah, just read that earlier. still, bit of a bummer. don't see why us english speakers should have to wait for it to be translated into 30 different languages before we can get a good look at it.

users of the euro ps store seem to get screwed at every turn compared to the US.
