Has anyone else seen this yet?

I enjoyed it over all but have to admit I didn't enjoy some of the 'funny' parts of the film. More often then not I felt myself further feeling sorry for Josie because it seemed like they were made to laugh at him and not with him, which left a large conflict in the build up to the end.

As heart breaking and enjoyable as it was, I do feel it does not deserve the awards and hype.
    Anyone else?

Didn't like it at all. Aside from one or two decent moments, the whole experience just felt like a chore. Being an urban boy, it may just be because I couldn't relate to the characters or environment at all. I posted a review over here:

But yeah, certainly undeserving of the glowing praise it seems to be getting. Average at best, IMO, although I am certainly in the minority with that opinion.

Just saw this today (were ye at the same show?) and I enjoyed it, although I enjoyed the work on "Adam and Paul" more.

Pat Shortt was surprisingly good (he had been the main reason stopping me before this) with the tone pretty bleak. I'm a city boy but I imagine that's the sort of life a small country town might have (then again Halloran is a city boy also imagining Irish country life). The fact that Josie reminded me of someone I know makes it more poignant, although once again Halloran felt compelled to put in the dark ending (he did it in "Prosperity" as well).

I certainly think it's the best Irish movie I've seen this year (never did see "Once") but not sure if it deserves all the plaudits it's received - for a much better slice of life, where you're stuck in a rut, Shane Meadows did much better in "This is England".

'Kings' takes that award for me.
I'm a city boy but I like to think I have plenty of experience with country towns. There was nothing wrong with the set up, for me the problem was the handling of the events leding to the end.

The reason it's receiving acclaim is because the majority of Irish movies are complete rubbish. A good film such as Garage stands out a mile amongst the usual dross. It has qualities completely missing from other Irish movies such as a talented director; intelligence and originality.

I dunnno, I can't think of the last bad Irish film I've seen.

    I've enjoyed them all.
