3G store in Drogheda had the old white 20" on sale for €999.

If you`re looking for one of the new glossy screens then I dont think you`ll find them cheap anywhere.

I dont know if its an option for you but buying from the States is really the best deal going.

I bought my iMac at the US Apple Online store last year on Black Friday... the day after Thanksgiving I think November 23rd this year. There was 2/300 dollars knocked off for that day only as far as I can remember. I just had it shipped to my mate who lives over there and he took it home for me on the plane at Christmas.

One thing to be aware of though is Apple Store Online can be a bit picky about the Credit Card you use. They wouldnt accept my European card last year for my iMac but I was able to just wire transfer them the money from my bank. However last month I bought a new Macbook no problems from the US store with the same Credit Card they wouldnt accept last year!

www.macwarehouse.co.uk if you have a VAT number will allow you to buy a 2.8GHz iMac for a shade over €1700

Although if you can buy in the states then it's much better!

Providing I dont get hit by customs... I could get a 2.8ghz iMac from the states for €1640 inc shipping it to Ireland using USPS.

I doubt my boss would let me use his vat number.... then again. If u have the number do they just charge u the ex vat price???

Yes, but the company is still supposed to declare the purchase on their VAT return (even thought VAT was deducted at source)

To avoid getting an import tax bill just make sure there is no mention of price on the outside of the box... I learnt that the hard way buying hd dvds from Amazon :(

You're boss doesnt really have anything to lose letting you use his VAT Number its deffo worth asking. I have my own so Im lucky but I constantly purchase from Pixmania-Pro with it and never have any issues

Well i can get it sent to me from the states no problem.... Only thing is the power but according to the specs its 110-240v... Just need a adaptor for the plug I guess. Keyb n mouse dont bother me as i'll be changing them... Is there anything else different about the US iMac??

Yep i can confirm all you need is an adaptor... I got used to the keyboard in about an hour, i wouldnt rush out to change it. I can't actually think of any other difference

Grands, might "try" and hold off till the 23rd although I'd be a bit weary leaving it that late and so close to christmas with regards shipping... So for less that the 2.4 Mac i'm hoping to get a 2.8 Mac with a Wireless keyb n mouse....

I'd still be very wary about getting caught by customs though, moreso at this time of year. Realistically the iMac will be in a fairly big box and no amount of "Gift" marking or no pricing displayed can take away from that. Surely those working in customs are supposed to check on things like that? A close friend recently got caught for an R/C car coming from Japan even though it was marked "Gift". Happened last Tuesday.

They change quite frequently, I'd say with the new models out you might pick up a good deal on one of the old 24", if that was of interest.
