Just ordered Sky HD today. As i already have Sky+ and Multiroom (one extra box) they gave me the HD box for 419 euros (31 euros off) with no installation charge.

I'll now be able to use my Sky+ box as my second box, giving me sky+ functionality in both rooms. Bonus!

Were gettin an Au Pair net year, so the spare standard box will be used for freeview in her room.

I think you'll be waiting a while. They've only just dropped the sub for Sky+ after around 6 years, so i dont think they'll drop the HD sub for some time. And why should they? They've developed this technology at great expense, someone has to pay for it. I'd rather not pay it, but until the blu-ray/hd dvd war is sorted out, its the cheapest and most future proof way to get HD.

If i were to guess i'd say Sky will drop the price just after Christmas as i would imagine a lot of people, like myself, will sign up pre-christmas as they are laying on more HD movies for the season. In the post Christmas lull they may well offer the box out at 300 euros to shift a few units.

With regards to more channels, Chanel 4 HD will be launched in december and on November 21st BBC will make a decision whether to make BBCHD (not the test chanel) a proper chanel. If they do it will launch in December and will run concurrently with BBC1 for the most part, except for very late at night.

I have heard that SkyHD will be offered for €249 before Christmas by the manager of a Sky Install Team. Anyone else out there hear similar stories???

Just ordered Sky HD this afternoon. I have SKY+ plus standard sky multiroom. They said as I was a customer since 2000 they would do the box for €299, and free standard installation, even better is that it's being installed on Monday!
