when playing a fiver multi rebuy gamblefest, dont go with the intention of spending 60 quid..... its just bad value

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭aodea

ok well lets see with jeff.

Dont play tired is a first as you may as just give your money to chairty.
Dont play games for the crack try no matter what level to be a bit more serious. 5rebuy, jackpot etc.

There are times when it is acceptable to fold a draw. Last time you folded a draw Ron atkinson was manager of Manchester United.

You dont have to call a reraise when you have raised with air just to save face.

Plus points you play a wide range of hands and its hard to put you on specfics. You play popstion very well. You play a big stack very well. Hate it when you have chips.

rather not have you at my table. Put thats mainly cause you never shut up.

p..s dont get so worked up when luckylloyd moans at you as its ok to disagree with him.

    concentrate more in tournies
decide why it is you play poker, if its for the craic and enjoyment and then "possible" wins, then keep playin the current buyins you are. Call with draw, annoy lloyd by outdrawing him, talk alot at the table (perhaps give away too much info, but have a good laugh)

if your playing to improve and win as much as is possible, cut out all the above. Play more tournies like 100 f/o etc, instead of 5 20 f/o's. You have the game to do well, cash in these, and you'd be surprised how the standard differs. Id say the 20 jackpot game is on par with many of the SE games

take your sister to poker with you . . . (never saw her, but aodea is trustworthy)

    EVERYONE STOP POSTING!!!

I have a bet on with Jeff over most final tables by Christmas in tourneys where we both play (he said it was unfair otherwise as I play more tournaments than him) and I don't want his game to improve through constructive analysis!!!

Seriously though Jeff, you seem to get bored very easily when you get short stacked in tournaments, as if you just couldn't care less circa 10BB. With a stack you can play well but maybe focusing a little more in short stack situations would help. Stop thinking about playing a sit-and-go with Carl et al and get your head into the game.

Oh and stop letting Sarah play your hands when you haven't looked at them!

standard of the twenty game in jackpot is prolly on par with the 95scalps in se - depending on night could be better, so he isnt "taking shots" to play these games.

    - Don't play tired;

    - You may not be playing in three years time. At some point, you will be left wondering because you never took a shot. Now, taking a shot doesn't mean playing a 1k game with the last 1k you have to your name - it is perfectly understandable that you wouldn't be able to play optimally in that sort of situation. But taking a shot for you should actually be about keeping poker money separate from other money and actively going for the big spin. I do think that there is something specific in your personality that is happy having the craic and sticking at a level where you feel obviously superior. Your insistence on playing the €20 FO in the Jackpot has a parallel with the fact that you are currently content to be dominating in the lower reaches of the United Churches league with the Lane. YOU HAVE THE GAME TO BEAT JUST ABOUT ANY TOURNAMENT HELD IN THIS COUNTRY. PLAY SOME!!

maybe this will be easier for him when he has a job and poker money can be just that. however like myself jeff often uses poker money for other things such as bringing girls to the zoo.

however with regards to a shot was optimal for this. for example say jeff wins 1000. over three weeks. should this be used to play 20 50 games - 10 100 games or 2 500 games?

regards jeff sister we should all speak nice about my missus!!

you are too stubborn in some situations. when you raise with 84s in ep and get reraised do not flat call just cause it was annoying. i like how well you can tell where bad players are in a hand, its always a mystery to me and i end up pushing drawing dead. you play bad players very well, however i noticed that good players do tend to isolate you as you open alot of pots. that doesnt mean stop necessarily it just means be prepared to 4bet allin occasionaly and they'll prob calm down 3betting you.

you really need to start playing better tourney's. the 100 game in the se on mondays is good as is luke's friday one. you should play some satellites for bigger tourneys too as they will greatly improve ur game. recommended satellite is for you to play cash this weekend wherever you most like playing cash and try spin up a buy in for waterford.

    __________

I've only actually played against you a few times and can see that you have the discipline to win a big tournament.

From talking to you I know that you have a very good understanding of the theory of poker, from dealing I'm sure you were able to pick up a lot too.

The only piece of advice I would give is to work harder at your game and to remember its not just what you do at the poker table, its also the way that you do it (i.e. 3 betting, 4 betting check-raising and other such fancy moves are fine but bear in mind that you don't want your opponents to have any idea of what you hold - sounds obvious but its something I don't think you really think about that much)....

Hows the omaha going Jeff? Perhaps you could give me lessons

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,228 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

I'm always happy to have you at my table, not because it is easy to get chips off you but because its enjoyable to play some decent poker at at low stakes for a change.

You play a wide range of cards so that this can make it quite hard putting you on an acceptable range. BUT the other side of this is that you play marginal hands to often when not deep enough. The €45 jackpot game a few months ago, you commented to me that you were fighting to get it above starting stack all night. I joined the table to your right, and you were on about 7k (up for the first time). A large pot developed between you and two other players when you play low suited cards, you invested a lot of chips and ended up folding the turn believing you draw was dead (it was live but thats irrelevant), your stack was not deep enough to be playing those kind of hands, and you ending up getting into a tough spot (it was always a fold too, you beat your self up a little when it was the other two showed-down and you were live).
    Play tighter in mid stages,
also from game above, don't let me open fold my sb to your shortstack bb when you have aces ;)

i think you are a good player too. You should play much less hand though, lloyds advice mirrors my thoughts.
You are also a tell box when you are bluffing hence me shoving when you tried to steal sams blinds!:D
play more tournaments like 100FO etc and call me when you do.

Also post pic of your sister

Have played with you only rarely but have always been impressed.

You have the game to beat nearly any tourney around Dublin. As has been said before in the thread you read the game absolutely excellently. Have seen you make a couple of top class moves and calls which I have been really impressed with.

Also, its enjoyable to be on your table as it means that in general the table as a better atmosphere!

However, I think you make too many moves. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is not necessary to make moves in every spot that it seems possible to make them. You end up risking our entire stack much too often with marginal hands. There has been a couple of situations where I've noticed this, first one to spring to mind is 2nd level of the 20fo, your in the CO, UTG and UTG+1 limp. Both are rocks, one has limp raised already this game. Rest of table limps around to you... You push for 1300 with QJ. UTG and UTG+1 both call with AA and AQ. There have been plenty more moves of this sort too.

Stop raising with junk preflop, and stop calling 3-bets light.

You also seem to have the attidude of "big stack or bust" which means you are often chip leader but often gone too. And that chip lead of yours is never stable!

Its always tough and interesting to have you at my table ad I hope I play with you again soon!

I played with you a few times but mainly when I was starting out and pretty awful so alot of what you did probably went over my head but one thing that struck me was I think you're more interested in 'outplaying' people rather than maximising equity in any given situation, if that makes sense. I think aside from that you're an absolutly fantastic player but alot of the leaks in your game come from that mentality.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,438 ✭✭✭jbravado

Decent manner at the table-never seem to get too worked up about a beat or whatever.

I echo a lot of whats been said already-bit mainly LISTEN to the advice thats being given by some of the better theory guys on this forum. You seem to think you are right almost always and I cant think of a thread where youve said "actually maybe your right or that makes sense".

Play some cash games at the right times/games ie early saturday morn friday night and youll find it hard not a ech a little profit.Maybe then you can take a shot at more 200plus tournies.

I gotta admit there is a definite theme running through this thread. i'll be bearing alot of what is said here in mind. i was looking forward to this thread so i can make some adjustments. with a few tournaments and a bit of tinkering i fully intend to improve x 18!

oh and i cant play waterford as im graduating! so long studenthood!
