    Wednesday
    7th November
    World Face-Up Hold-Em Championship
Buy in €100, registration fee €10.
1 re-buy or top up for first 3 levels.

Ok, is this a "Does exactly what it says on the tin" tournament? Its on during the Fitz festival on Wed and is sponsored by Ladbrokes.

Is it Hold'em and all the hole cards are dealt face up? Is it also recognised as a World Championships so there's a trophy and prestige and all that jazz for the winner aswel?

Can someone fill me in on how this is going to work

I think its an equity/Win% guessing game.

Everyone is dealt their cards face up and you bet which hand will win at the river
    again, I think

It's not the type where you hold you cards to your head and you can see everyone's cards but your own??

If you can see all the cards then you'd never see a flop... well I wouldn't anyway...

damn you Ste, you beat me to it

I'd play if this was the case...

Ok so i'm dealt AKs in the BB...

    UTG has 33...MP has 66....LP has AKo.....SB has J10c

UTG raised to 500....MP pushes...LP calls.....SB calls....I'm frantically searching for my calcumulator to see what my odds are and UTG has already called out of turn coz he's Bops :p

    Sounds messy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Well for starters UTG would just fold, and then it'd depend on if MP wanted to race, or what kind of person the LP was ... because if MP raises, LP will almost always push or re-raise (actually just seeing the BB has AK as well, in which case he might just fold). It's become a purely Pre-Flop game IMO.

And with AKs in the BB I'd just fold cos you're drawing to 4 outs to split, or for a flush or some mad straight, but I'd doubt you're getting the right odds.

EDIT: Although if people are playing who don't understand proper theory and odds it could be a goldmine...

But UTG is Bops, did you not see :p (only joking Bops!)

Yeah i just threw the hands up for a quick example. I didnt think them through. I wouldnt be calling with AK in that situation but its something that could come up. It could well become a goldmine if thats, infact how the game will play out!

A friend of mine qualified for this in a freeroll on ladbrokes and from what he has told me the impression he got from a chat with a representative of ladbrokes is that it is basically holdem with the exception that your hole cards are also face up. therefore there is no guesswork as to what your opponents have. everyone knows everybody elses cards. therefore it is a game of chicken with cards

It is exactly what is says on the tin. I was watching a satellite for this yesterday, and what it will do is highlight how bad some players actually are at the game (probably including me). Betting takes place in the same manner as normal, the only difference is that your cards are face up, not face down. If it gets to the flop then all you have to do is play totally based on pot odds including how many of your cards have been folded, charge incorrect prices for draws (but you still want them to call) and only call when you are getting the right odds then, as there are no implied odds in this game bar redraws of course. Freerolls will be the top situation to get in.

It would be much better if there as no action PF and all the action started with every player in the hand with the flop being dealt

Is it a speed poker thing as well, I can see people dwelling up for ages trying to work out the odds etc.

Have to get a PDA that will run pokerstove and bring it along. :D

It actually sounds kinda fun now I think a little about it, I might just venture in... EDIT: Scratch that, I just saw it's on this Wednesday, won't be able to make it :(

The only strictish rule though is that you cannot comment on a hand in play, so you can't say 'oh he has a flush draw over there' or 'I can't beat a set, might as well fold'. It isn't something that usually comes up much normally, but it might help some blind/bad players so say nothing.

    Should be good craic though.

33 is actually my fav set miner - i probably would call the push :)

So basically, assuming you aren't a muppet - if you get better hands than everyone else you will win?

WHAT IS THE ****ING POINT IN THAT?????!!!!!!!
I think its a case of good pot control and pot odds.

you raise qq, player calls AK, flops a FD,
you have to offer him bad pot odds, but at the same time get him to call to increase you stack
    varience would be huge

This is why it's not that easy, and people won't make the proper adjustments. Alot of people won't realise it's not 50:50 for QQ v AK if you only see the flop, if you don't flop an A or K you won't be able to see the turn and River, so you would have made a mistake by just calling. It's actually a great idea, because this very point is just one of the things that LOADS of people will make mistakes about.

I think a good 7 Card stud player would do well, if they know about Hold 'em odds, paying to cards that are burnt will be vital, I actually would really like to play, so I hope it takes off and does well, cos I'd like to play it at some stage.

Its an interesting concept but for me getting inside the other players heads and trying to think what they are thinking so I can get them to act as I want them to act is what poker is about.... the maths seems a very dry technical exercise to be honest. Still I'd like to give it a go if I wasnt already playing a bunch of big tournies this month and going on hols before xmas. Talk about decimating your bankroll!!!

Could be good for a laugh, and I'd imagine some players would be absolutley awful at it

I think a €100 buyin for this game is far too much. This would be great craic if it was €30 with 2 rebuys. Essentially the same amount, but i reckon it would draw a far bigger crowd.

Worse again Tony, it is 100 with an optional rebuy/topup. I presume it is to get some kind of a prizepool. I think it is too much for essentially a fun event.
