Why do you need ddr3 ram? Such a pointless expense at the moment. Depending on what you're using the machine for a Quad might be worth looking at.

I had asked myself the same question, but the excessive upgrade bug has gotten a hold of me, hehe!

I suppose DDR2 is really cheap at the moment so i could easily drop it down and save some cash. The Board is pretty nice and in the future i could swap out for DDR3. But the main reason i chose DDR3 is for the 1333FSB, the processor is also 1333 so figured keep it all level so i have no bottle neck. I had also considered the quad but i had looked into it a bit and from what im seeing a 3.0GHz dual is out performing a 2.4GHz Quad.

I have yet to read a review that didn't find DDR2 enough even to support any good overclock without the memory forming a bottleneck. DDR3 is just a waste right now, with a high price which won't shift for a while as it's in small quantities and there's little demand. One to keep an eye on for later. With the money you save you could even invest in 4gb of DDR2 and 64-bit xp/vista, or a better card.

Yeah if you're looking at the games side of things the dual will be better for the near future, but if you're using the machine for other tasks, a quad is a good investment too for both purposes.

Well its a pure gaming machine, i don't do anything else on the machine so i will stick with the dual for now. I will drop the ram down to DDR2 and see what i can save on. And then see if that money can be put to a better card. I was considering a gtx but with the price difference to the GT for value im gonna stick to the gt. I download all my operating systems so no need for me to spend money on those, hehe

Yeah i have home premium at the moment. Well i settled on the spec of my machine. I went with the last build i post with the change of the processor from the quad back to the 3.0GHz dual core. And changed the ram from the ocz to some crucial ram caus ocz isnt on the asus board list

Dont buy a pre overclocked gpu, get the cheapest 8800gt you can find & buy an aftermarket cooler & oc it yourself

Or save that cash from the DDR3 RAM and upgrade the GT to a GTX ;)
