Ok, looking for some urgent advice, as closing date is today & I still haven't made up my mind.

I'd be grateful for any words of wisdom whatsoever. Anything!!!!!

So, I'll try to cut this short:-
I have a Hons degree in IT. Working in the field for a good few years now. In my current position for 3 years. It's an hours drive away from where I live. Boss is nice, colleagues are nice, work is fine, BUT:- I'm getting it REALLY hard to motivate myself anymore. I sit on the net for most of the day even though I have work I could be doing. I just can't get into it.

A while back I realised that I'd love to get into Primary Teaching, so I'm currently studying to repeat my Irish LC exam this coming June to get my Honour. Then apply for the HDip with Hibernia.

I have NO teaching experience whatsoever. In the summer of '98 I spent a few weeks in the local primary school being a sort of classroom assistant (before there were such things in Primary schools). It was as part of a Fas summer scheme I was doing, so it was all very informal. Apart from that I taught a few computer classes to Primary school children, but that's it.

    My question is this:-
A maternity position has come up in a school not all that far away from me, to teach Junior Infants. I'm wondering should I go for it. Something is saying 'No' to me, that I'm not ready, or it's not the right time, but I'm also wondering if that's just me chickening out, & that I'm great about talking about changing career, but not so brave about actually taking the jump!!
I'd have a months notice to give in my current position, but have some holidays to take, so I could prob leave before that, but I still don't think I'd be able to start the day the school would be hoping for.

I know other people in my position who are teaching maternity positions, so it does happen, I just don't know if I'm ready for it.

There's also the issue of having a mortgage & myself & partner are about to aply for another joint one. Should I stay in my regular job for the sake of this?

As you may see, I'm very confused about this. I really don't know which I should do for the best, or am I mad for even considering it??
The closing date is today, so I need to make a decision fast.

    Any suggestions / advice?

    Its a tough call..

But the first part of your own signature should guide you in the right direction.. "

"We're not here for a long time"

The old dilemna pops into my mind then.. Is it better to regret something you did than something you didnt?

I'd apply.. then make the decision when you know you've got it or you dont. If you dont get the job.. no problem. If you do...

As ZZ Top once said... "Might aswell jump!!!!"
