I have a 49cc Suzuki Katana. Everything is fine when cold, it starts and idles fine. However when warm it cuts out when i stop at lights etc. I have to keep the throttle slightly open to keep it from cutting out.

Any ideas ? I've replaced the spark plug and battery recently.

Do you come downhill in the mornings?
I used to have a Katana could start it fine in the winter when it got cold and I was coming downhill when I stopped and did not keep revving it always cut out. Sometimes took a few mins to get going again- bike shop told me it was something to do with the cold air going into the engine.

    Nope, don't go downhill.

It only happens when the bike is warm

Thanks rbd, found the idle screw and have adjusted it.

Have one more question, the bike seems to be using quite a bit of coolant. Topped up the bottle yesterday after noticing it was practically empty and today after checking it its gone down to the minimum mark. Can't see any signs of a leak ??

is there steam comming out of the exhaust?
did a garage have it recently
has it sat up for a few days recently
how often do you drive it

Last checked it at the weekend, topped it up and the resevoir bottle was empty within one drive.

    no steam.

    No garage had it recently.

I drive it Mon-Fri, 24kms each day, dont drive it at the weekend.

    Yes, using proper coolant.

The coolant is coming out the overflow tube at the top of the bottle. Pressure seems to be building up and forcing the coolant out. The bottle has a lot of gunk in it.

Yes, it comes out the overflow tube.

I've brought the bike to Paul Ryans, he reckons its the head gasket.

    it is

if the coolant is moved by reving thats preessure from the cylinder escaping into the water jacket
    then blowing out the tube

    how much, how long?
