    Anyone see this on ITV? It wasn't bad until the rubbish ending invented by the scriptwriters. Feckin' hell.

    Being a huge fan of the Merchant Ivory version with Helana Bonham Carter, I deliberately didn't watch this last night. Was it awful??

    It lacked all the wit and warmth of the Merchant Ivory version. The performances were flat and dull and the ending was beyond ridiculous.

    The Merchant Ivory original is still the best. It was on Film Four earlier in the day. In the ITV one, they changed the ending and bumped off George for no particular reason other than a need to justify remaking the thing.
