What gpu u have? Maybe its worth considering getting some 20-22 inc monitor , but keep in mind bigger resolution-more horse power you gonna need to run you games smoothly......
Back to the tread-http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=331032 , when it comes to monitor- I always choose Samsung......

Most LCD's scale fairly well these days anyway, so selecting the right resolution is less of an issue.

First one-ASUS looks nice , has a god spec and fits to your budget....
Second-looks amazing has brilliant specs but comes with a higher price tag....

Back when LCD's first appeared, they were awful at scaling, now they're quite good (not as good as a CRT, but fine for gaming which is quite fast moving), determining which monitor to get based on your graphics power is a bit of a folly, as a monitor will far outlast a PC system (usually), and in a years time, the same system mightn't be able to manage the native resolution in a new game anyway.

Well dell d 4500 comes with agp slot , and looks like a man has never upgraded his Gpu card , so to suggest anything above 1240*1080 would be folly .

Well, he won't be able to get anything bigger than a 22" for 200-250 anyway, but with an AGP card, he won't be able to drive that at it's native resolution, and will probably be scaling, hell, he'll probably have to run newer games at 800*600.

have upgraded agp card to 6600
