Hi, I'm relatively new to the European scene and am a bit lost when it comes to train travel. Does anybody know the best way to book a train between amsterdam and prague - i realize there may be a connection or two.

Oh, and any info on how long it would take, how much it would cost, etc would be great as well. Or, if it's a long train ride, would any go overnight?

    Cheers

We used this site all summer when inter-railing. Mostly only used to get timetables, but i'm pretty sure you can book tickets on it too. I wouldn't say you need to pre-book tickets really, just show up at the station about an hour or 2 before the train leaves and you'll be ok. unless its a particularly busy time (bank holiday etc.)

Watch out for the number of train changes when it returns your search results.

*edit* just had a look there, best bet is on a saturday. 14hr journey with only 1 changeover. departs 18.34 and arrives 08.55 on sunday. It'll be a long one!

I've done that journey. It's absolute hell! Might sound doable on an internet site but the reality of that length of time by train I found quite hellish.

You might be better to divide in two and stop off along the way, e.., g Munich, Frankfurt.

Book a couchette, pack a few cold Heineken / good book, etc., and kill 2 birds with the one stone (travelling and sleeping). European rail remains the last bastion of civilised travel !

Am I reading this correctly? 14 hours from Amsterdam to Prague?? I'll interrailing throught europe next week and will be heading from Prague to Amsterdam at some stage. Even with interrail tickets can, will it take that long to travel there? I thought the journey was only 6 hours or so?? :(
