Well, they stopped making these in the late 60's ...so no ...you can't get them new any more.

How well oiled is your money printing machine?

    Hi,

dont think they do them new anymore in that model and I think that one looks like a 1960s model classic VW camper van - sufer type.

Are you interested in a classic 1960s or 1970s one, if so get in touch I can put you in contact with some dealers.

Whats your budget - always the crucial question?

    about this video:

This is not your regular crash test video to NCAP standards. This video was made to show the capabilities of the crash test apparatus (mainly the wall:D) and not the "safety" of the vehicle.
Basically they took an old T3 off the road, packed it full of sandbags (in the cab and on the load bay), accelerated it to 120 km/h and smacked it into a wall. A wall, not a soft crash barrier and at twice the speed of an NCAP test.
No vehicle, (even a new 5 star one) would look particularly pretty or "safe" after that kind of "test"

here it is from the other side:

This is the cheapest one that I found on autoscout24.de at €9,999. They're not a bit. Have become a collector's item.

Actually folks you *can* buy them brand new...mostly the same shape, but water-cooled.
    More info here:

    and here:

i]Edited to add: thanks to my mighty slow dial-up I didn't spot that OP was looking specifically for a splitty (manufacture stopped in '67), but hey, he might be interested in a *new* bay (originally manufactured '68-'79)[/i

If you want to get your hands on an original classic one over here, you'd be better off chatting to these folks about the pros and cons, and to get an idea of what you'll get for your money http://www.type2ireland.org - Ireland's largest Classic VW Community ;)
I know for a fact there's an incredibly smart and tidy '67 11-window split about to come on the market ;)

That's serious money those VW's are fetching. Have any of you visited Australia? There's plenty of them on the roads there with the majority of them in top class condition. There's a campervan rental company that specialises in that model too.
The Aussies take their road trips seriously.
Just a tip if any of you do visit Oz. Call into any of the campervan rental companies and ask them do they need any campervans or motorhomes relocated/delivered to another city. You pay a nominal fee and are given a generous time frame for delivery.
Britz was one company I availed of.

A fews years ago i worked on a fruit and veg van after school, and it was one of the above named VW panel vans. The lad who owned it also had a 3 or 4 "spare" vans that he used for, eh spares i guess.. I'm sure they didn't have the value then that they hold now...

yes Peasant, that's right - they were generally used as commercials and therefore not many survived - they are more rare and therefore more valuable:)

you could buy one that needs restoring for half the price but then you will not get it complete for this sort of price - sorry - sales pitch over:o
