Not too up on this idea but what exactly is Freeview and can I get it? I know it's idea is basically recieving unencrypted TV / radio stations via a set-top box or something like that.

But the story is i'm in Sligo and currently waiting on our lines to be upgraded for Chorus Digital so i've opted out of analogue but i've just bought a new TV which has a built-in digital tuner (DVB-T) so is there anything i can do with it outta the box to get stations or am i in an area which is incapable of such?

    Thanks in advance.

Freeview, (as mentioned in my sig below ;) ) is the brand name for the UK's digital terrestrial service, using DVB-T.

You have a tuner in your TV that is capable of getting digital terrestrial television (DTT). As you are in Sligo, the chances of getting DTT from the North are very slim. Plans for DTT in the Republic are still some time away, there is a trial occurring from two transmitters in Dublin and Dundalk. We will know more about a rollout or development here by next summer.

I've tried a freeview box at my parents house in Bundoran (a bit closer to the North than Sligo), but the signal is less than 50%, and just keeps breaking up; even the radio channels were breaking up. The UK analogue signals come in loud and clear, but I think the transmitter broadcasting the Freeview signals isn't at 100% power, and won't be for another few years, but I expect the signal might be strong enough when it's finally switched over.

If you can get the UK analogue channels Ok in Sligo now, then you might be able to get the Freeview when it's switched over. Sligo is kinda surrounded to the North by hills and mountains though, so maybe not.

Cheers lads. Shame as i thought it was something that would tie me over til Chorus finished setting up the lines around me for Digital Service.

Haven't picked up the TV yet but will this afternoon. Will let you know if i get any type of a signal but it's doubtful if biologikal's experiences are to go by.
