How to pay on Ebay

    Hi,

Ive just 'won' my first auction on ebay. Im now due to pay the seller which I understand Ebay is the best and safer/preferred way to go. As I mentioned Ive never bought anything on ebay before and would appreciate some feedback regarding what I do now.

I won some small camera equipment - a flash. Its shipping from america. Should I request the seller to write something specific on the package to avoid any further import charges.

And second, do I just transfer the money by paypal and leave it at that. Is ebay that automated? I mean will the seller need my mailing address/name or do they receive that from Pay pal or should i email them.

I know some of these are pretty obvious questions but I have searched Ebay and its suprisingly difficult to find the answers to what one would hope were common questions...perhaps Im particularly stoopdid!

Anyhow, thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing your advice/tips.

    Bestest,

    Bo

If you are setup with paypal, which by the sounds of things you are, your payment will include your mailing address. Once you go through the steps of tranferring the money, you will be asked to confirm your personal details.

With regards to asking the seller to label your package, that may or may not work. There are reports of people still getting charged with import duties despite the fact they had "gift" or whatever written on their package. No harm in trying, but its not a guarantee.

I also remember finding it surprisingly difficult to learn how to use ebay when I started out.

Please do not ask how to avoid these charges on the forum, thanks.

When you are paying via Paypal, you can use your credit card (that you may have used to setup your Paypal account) as a source of payment. It is fairly automated and will use your account settings during the payment process, and you will get emails confirming payment, etc.

On the auction page, or in "My eBay", there should be a Pay now button. this will forward you to Paypal with all details of the auction in place. Your details from Paypal will also be forwarded to the seller so there's nothing more to do than enter your password and you're done.

Writing things on the outside of the package will have little effect anyway, apart from maybe highlighting it to customs officials. Best to leave it alone.
