Hello all.. I have a 400d and my husband has a 30d.. I have a soligor 30da flash from my old camera. I've read that the wrong flash can destroy your camera, so I've been afraid to test it. Googling references people who have used this flash with my camera, but I also read somewhere that the voltage can vary and you should test it.. can anyone tell me how? Thanks!

Find specification of your falsh gun. Yes, some flashes have other polarity than could have your camera and some of them had the full voltage on the contacts.
So look for valteges in the flashgun specification and compare it to specification of your camera. Especially the polarity.

I was checking this just recently, for some ancient Yashica strobe I got. This page has listings of all the trigger voltages for practically every strobe under the sun:

The soligor 30DA apparently clocks in at 5.25v which ought to be fine.
