    http://x2vga.com/
if i got this would it allow me to use my monitor as a hdtv for my ps3 as sd kinda sux

    its a dell E176FP 17 inch monitor.
    1024 x 768 • 1280 x 1024 • 640 x 480 • 720 x 400 • 800 x 600 • 1152 x 864
these are the supported resolutions.now considering im a hd noob i was wondering would this work with my ps3 with a component cable? i could settle with 720p since ive heard it doesnt really matter on smaller screens

so basically im wondering what hd resolutions can this monitor do and would that box be worth my time? ive heard good reviews on it and its lag free

so basically would this monitor display the ps3 well at 720p
its not widescreen btw but im bad so a little help would be nice.

thanks in advance for your help :)
    sean

    hey weeder,

I dont think your monitor is able for hd, my monitor will only take 720p and its max resolution is 1680x1050. I could be wrong though.

    It will work ,
HD is anything over 720 lines vertical , so out of these

    1024 x 768 • 1280 x 1024 • 640 x 480 • 720 x 400 • 800 x 600 • 1152 x 864

the first , second , and last will work with the output of that box and the PS3 set to 720p ,

the best one to choose would be the 1280 x 1024 and what you should see would be a letterboxed high def picture ,like watching a widescreen DVD on your PC , it'll be kinda small but a whole lot better than your TV in terms of definition.

Having said that , HD ready flat panel prices are dropping like a stone , and here are some nice widescreen HD ready jobs if you can stretch your budget another 100

if i select 720p in the ps3 menu will it not set the resolution to 1280x720 and then give me an out of range error?
alsowith this diagram i am to the understanding that i wont lose much screen space in letterbox
