TRIBUTES were last night pouring in for Channel 10's "beautiful and bubbly" newsreader Charmaine Dragun who died suddenly in Sydney yesterday.

Friends and colleagues were rocked by the death - believed to be suicide - with the network's newsroom briefed by management last night.

"She was just a beautiful and bubbly, really lovely girl," one colleague said.

Born in Western Australia, the Ten newsreader lived in Sydney's inner-west with her partner of eight years.

Dragun, 29, was the prime-time anchorwoman alongside Tim Webster for Ten's Perth bulletin, which is broadcast from Ten's Pyrmont studios.

She was also the occasional fill-in for Sandra Sully during Ten's Late News.

She had a high profile online, with fan websites and clips on YouTube. See some by following the related link below right.

Her body was found by police at cliff scenic spot The Gap in Sydney's east around 4pm.

"We are all in a state of shock and sadness at this terrible news," Ten chief executive officer Grant Blackley said in a statement released last night.

"Charmaine was a highly intelligent, vibrant and caring person, universally liked and admired by her colleagues."

"Our deepest sympathies go to her partner, Simon, and her family.

"We are doing what we can to support them and urge everyone to respect their privacy at this time."

A biography on the webpage of the media agency which represented her states she was born in WA, where she rose up through the ranks of radio and then television.

"Charmaine began her career as a radio journalist. She worked as a reporter and news reader for Perth radio stations 6PR and 96FM," the bio reads.

"After making the move to television, she rose through the ranks at Ten News, covering everything from entertainment, to stories of major, national significance.

"She soon found her niche in court reporting and went on to cover some of the biggest cases WA has seen in recent years."

Anyone who has been to Western Australia recently should know the name and/or face.

Such a shame. She seemed like a really intelligent and genuinely likeable and cheerful person, this one really has come out of left field. Rest in Peace.

Absolute stunner. Far nicer than Grainne Seoige, Sharon Ni Whatever and all them. Before I was forced into employement the 5 o'clock news was the highlight of my day. Couldn't believe this when I heard.

    R.I.P.
