    Hi

they shouldn't be hot at all. Did you have them close to a radiator or other heat source.

its only the bottom half around the battery compartment. the batteries themselves are so hot my sons finger nearly stuck to the when he touched them

Could be an internal short circuit in the remote , then the batteries will give everything they have , get hot ,then they may develop internal shorts and get hotter again. Or (unlikely) internal short in one of the batteries.

If they are leaking fluid keep it away from your skin , and put the whole lot away from pets/kids anything flammable or sensitive to chemicals

thanks . kind of freaked me out a bit because i suppose they coud have burned the house down if left on the sofa overnight.

they dont seem to be leaking fluid but ive put them away already. they were so hot that the plastic coating melted on them. ntl are gonna get an earful off me tomorrow.

Is this the old 'el cheapo' NTL remote for the small box?

or is it the new fancy mediabox one ?

I've seen it happen when someone presses all the buttons by sitting on it. Never use rechargables for that reason (they can provide incendiary short circuit current). Alkaline cells can get very hot but won't set themselves or something else on fire like NiCd, NiMh or infamous Lithiums can.

Due to insulation of the plastic, it can take 10 to 40 mins to cool down.

So let me get this right

You picked up the remote and got your hands burnt off the batteries which i assume you think are made by ntl..

After getting burnt you then got someone else to touch the batteries

You then put them away i'd dread to think where .. and your then say you were worried about your couch going on fire .. and the best bit
your going to ring ntl and give out !

    to answer your points
    a) no i dont think ntl make phillips batteries. phillips make them:rolleyes:

    b) we were touching them as we were trying to get them out of the remote control so it didnt get any hotter.

    c) i dont know why you dread to think where i put the. your problem not mine

d)there is obviously a fault in the remote ie ntls remote

i am glad my posts entertained your sad little mind. are you aware that overheating remote controls have caused house fires? now what exactly is your problem with that?

You can't point the finger at anyone here unless that remote control was inspected fully. You'd be surprised what you find inside remotes when opened up but NTL didn't make the remote either.

I dont have a sad little mind i have common sense. why would u not just tap the back of the remote off a counter so the batteries pop out. the remotes are made by the people who supply ntl with the digi box's

you probably took the face off whoever answered the phone in ntl which will get you absoutely nowhere. You need to get the remote checked rather than ranting about something no one on here can help you with.
