A group of us from College were thinking of going to either Prague or Budapest in January for a few nights. Flight and accommodation prices are around the same.

I was just wondering which city is the best for touristy stuff, food, ease of getting around and especially for going out at night.

    Cheers.

id say prague. went to both during the summer. didnt see an awful lot of either but we found budapest very unfriendly towards tourists and prague nightlife was definatly better

(ps if you do go to budapest, be sure to pay on the metro/trams)

    Id say definitely Prague..it's wonderfull.
Actually I think it's one of the best places in Europe...
I had a lot of fun there and it's very cheap as well so you can really enjoy it without having to check all the time how much you've left in your wallet :D

    PRAGUE is a dream...

Prague is pretty nice. We had an apartment there for a summer a few years ago. It's cheaper than Budapest. And we found Budapest not that friendly though we did find rooms at the local College and drank in their bar and the students were nice enough.

I'd say go for Prague - tons of touristy stuff, small enough so easy to get around by tram and metro, loads of bars and clubs, loads of Irish bars for the full Irish Brekkie to soak up the excesses of the night before!!

(Second the advice to buy tickets for metro in Budapest if you decide to go there - if you don't you will be caught - we were :))

The underground or 'Tube'. They have people checking tickets and you will be fined on the spot if you can't produce one. Not very much 6 or 7 euros but crap when the actual ticket would have only cost you a couple of euro.
