Types of .22 rifles...

    Hi all,

I just wanted to ask a quick question. I was looking at the differant types of .22 rifles available. I am hoping to shoot silhoutte or paper targets, so I'll be looking at sport or silhoutte rifles. What I want to know, is there any regulation as to what type of loading mechanisms are allowed? Would I only be able to get a bolt-action rifle? or would I be able to get a semi-auto or a lever-action? (What can I say, i've always wanted to be a cowboy:D)

    Thanks Guys,

    Alan

There is no restriction on the loading mechanism. I have a .22 lr semi auto and had no problems with getting a licence. The only problem was the 3 month wait.

Check with the club you intend on joining before purchasing a rifle as some ranges don't allow semi autos, safety reasons.

What safety reasons would those be?

Bolt cant be readily removed as with a bolt action. Same goes for every other action type pretty much though. Most clubs cool with them with a breach flag inserted to show clear.

Could be wrong but thought that Semi Autos were not allowed in silhoutte shooting.

I would go for the bolt action myself you can do all the types of shooting you want to do with that.

strange to see this resurfacing, been a while since i wrote it:P I bought a CZ .22 bolt action a few months ago, and I can confirm that semi's are indeed not allowed in competition sil shooting ( at least none of the comps i've ever shot).
