    Howdy!
I hope this is the right place to ask this help question.

I have a problem with my laptop, i was messing around with the function keys and i think i messed something up. Basically when i open up excel it automatically zooms to 400% and will not let me use the drop down menus i.e. file, view etc.

When i use the internet the writing on the websites is very big, i have tired to change the view to medium or small but it automatically goes back to the biggest setting, also when i press the shift key i am brought back to my home page (Google).

Can anyone suggest what i have messed up, and possibly a fix for the mess up.

    Thanks in advance
    G

What's the make and model of the laptop? It could be a DPI setting that increase the size of fonts in windows.

Ah right, my brother has one. I don't think there is any function (FN) hotkey to change to font/screen size on those. It will be either a DPI setting as I mentioned above or the screen resolution was changed to something like 640 x 480.

First check the DPI setting to see if it is set too high like 400%. Right click your desktop go to display properties, settings then advanced, on the general tab you will see DPI setting. Make sure its on the 'normal' setting.

If that looks alright click ok which will bring you back to the display properties check the screen resolution which should be at least 1024 x 768. That particular screen you have supports up to 1600 x 1200 I think.

Let us know if that solves your dilemma. :)

Cheers Hal for your help. The res was 1280 x 800 and the dpi was set to normal.
just opened excel and it seems to be ok, and when i changed the view on internet exploer it stayed at the medium setting and did not jump back to largest

Bit weird the way that happened but it seems to have fixed itself.
Thanks again for your help, very much appreciated.
