need help with triax multi lnb bracket

    Hi,

I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me in setting up this system.

Basically the setup i have is the Triax 80cm dish, with the multi-lnb holder and 2 smart lnbs.

I'm trying to pick up astra 28.2, and hotbird 13.0; the problem i'm having is that when both lnbs are connected, I only get a signal on one, whereas if I connect each one individually they both give adequate signal on their respective satellites. I've tried replacing the DisEqC switch, but that hasn't helped.

Its driving me up the walls, so I just thought I'd see if you had any advice or ideas. Its as if there is interference when both lnbs are connected, as if I block one with my hand, I will get signal back on the other.

Hopefully you might be able to give me some advice.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Silly suggestion but have you set up your sat receiver properly?

i.e. told it that one sat is on switch 1/4 and the other on switch 2/4 (make sure that you are connected to 1/4 and 2/4 not 3/4 and 4/4)

yeah i've set the diseqc settings correctly alright. When I have both connected only one will receive a signal. Anybody have any experience with the triax multi lnb bracket setup?

What do you mean "Smart LNBs?"

A Disqec switch needs ordinary LNBs.
    [ Diseqc Switch ]---------------------------[Receiver]
      |1 |2 |3 |4
      | | | |
      | | | |
      | | | |
     (28)(19)(13) LNBs

If 4 way put 13E on 3 to allow adding 19.2E later, otherwise 13 on 2.

28.2E should be on 1 for Skybox compatibility as it won't do Diseqc switching

You must separately enable 2 or 4 way Diseqc switching on the Satellite receiver or only port 1 is used. Also for each satellite edit which port to use.

'Smart' is the company which manufacture the lnbs. I have 28.2e on diseqc switch 1 at the moment, but as i'm not using a sky box this shouldn't really make any difference anyway should it? I have a 2 way diseqc switch at the moment, but i did try replacing it with a 4 way which i know works, and it didn't help matters! Was thinking of trying aligning the dish with the prime focus on 28.2, and having the hotbird 13 lnb offset? Good idea? Bad Idea?

Thanks for the help so far guys.

    No.. Align Dish on 19E
Otherwise you can't get 13E & 28 on Same dish.

If you don't have 3rd LNB...

    1) Align dish on 19E with LNB for 13E just to east of Arm up tight. Make sure to peak E/W and Elevation. Make sure bracket is mounted with hole at bottom not top or it won't angle enough. It should curve in toward dish at east & west end, not out. Mark LNB position with permenant marker incase you want to add 19E later.
    2) DON'T move dish at all.
    3) Move LNB east by about as much as LNB horn and peak 13E by LNB movement only, without moving dish.
    4) Add 2nd LNB on extreme West of multi-LNB bracket for 28.2E, the bracket needs to tilt uphill toward West to get Sky.
    5) Mark LNB bracket positions with scratch and marker to allow replacement without re-alignment.
At any later date you can easily add 19E.

If dish is knocked off only move dish for re-alignment on LNB closest to main arm.

finally got it working folks...thanks for the help! think it was a combination of having the lnbs slightly off the correct alignment, and also I think the diseqc switch itself was dodgy. I replaced it with another one and the signal strength went up, and both lnbs started working properly!

    Thanks!

Would be a nice idea if some of the experts out there next time theyre setting one of these beasts up tp take some pictures as they go along and post it on a web page somewhere

I tried to set up a 13/19/28 dish onetime. Eventually got it working (kinda) more through persistence and dumb luck than anything. Im good on the theory of these things but a complete noob when it comes to actual DIY
