I'm 23 and wanna get a bike. I've no licence yet. What's the max engine size I'm allowed? and what's insurance like for a 125? ballpark figure....

    thanks in advance

dunno, there is probably bigger, but this beauty came up in my google search:

"January 25, 2007 Squeeze a massive 8.2 litre supercharged V8 monster truck engine with as much power as a Bugatti Veyron into a motorcycle and you have the Rapom V8"

you might have to get it restricted down a few HP though because on a learner licence you can only drive something that is in the Power to Weight ratio of .16kw per kg or thereabouts.

You will need to ring an insurance company for insurance, internet people don't give quotes.

    Hope that helps.

A 125cc at your age? You're looking at way more than a grand IMO... Unfortunately, biking for the under 25 is extremelly expensive in this country... "Prohibitly expensive" that is...

i think it would be touching near 2000 because i got a quote of 3000 euro on a vespa!!!!!!!!crazy i know but they said becasue of my age and the dangers of a bike.

pff, with motor tax of €67 per anum you'd be mad not to!

Anyway, if it's any good I started out paying €1400 Fully comp on a Bullet 500 four years ago and I was about your age.

Ring them up for a quote, thats the only reasonable way you are going to get a realistic answer.

For example, the lad I sold my SV650 to is probably your age or so, and has that insured for less than a grand.

I dont think you'll be restricted to a 125, though you will be restricted to a bike that has 33bhp and under.

Insurance is damn expensive, so you are better of opting for something that the insurance companies wouldnt consider sporty. For example the Yamaha Varadero 125 might be a good first bike for you. If you wantes to opt for something a tad faster and bags better looking then go for an Aprilia RS125. Insurance companies will slate it for being sporty however.

Once you have had your licence for to years or more, that BHP restriction will be gone, and you will be allowed ride what ever you want (if insurance allows). DO a few bike courses that would bring your insurance down. Hope this helps

my first year's insurance at 24 (june 2006) on a 125 (vespa) third party only was €1600. this years (june 2007) was €800. the 1600 was before quinn direct did bikes.

Thank God they've entered the market. AON and CN were just ripping people off!

My first year with CN: €1300 EUR TPO
My second year with QD: €1000 Fully Comp.

And I don't see AON or CN beating QD next year when I renew!

Talk about high quotes. First year on a restricted Bandit, Aon Fully comp for €730.

Quinn would not quote and CN was over 2.5K

Aon wouldn't quote me on a Restricted Bandit. But that's probably because I had a provisional license for the first 3 weeks... CN gave me a great deal on the provisional and after I got my full license they knocked off €300 EUR. QD are the way to go if you have some NCB and if you're pretty sure you'll never have to claim anything!
