When going to the recycling centre with plastic bottles & milk containers they tell us to take the lids off them, what do we do with them?
I've heard of people collecting them for charity for people to get a free wheelchair,is this true? If so know of anyone out there who mite be looking for some?

Not sure of what happens with the plastic ones, but when i used to work in waste management, there was a big machine in the waste transfer station with a magnet that actually sucked all the steel caps from the general refuse, and they were recycled. It also sucked out cutlery, and its amazing how many people seem to accidentally bin spoons and forks!

    Yeah,

it's so that when the bottles are being squashed at the recycling place, they don't shoot off and hit some poor unsuspecting recycling fella in the eye.

Just put them in the container.

At our bring centre there are buckets for the lids. I've never heard of anyone collecting them for charity.

In the bring centre near us they just say to take them off and put them in with the bottles. Probably for the reason Tampopo said.

I'd say they'd have to wear PPE when working here and the machine should have safety barriers. There is such a thing as Health and Safety now, and I doubt any of the recycling centres are that old that they don't have safety beatin into them.

The main reason I'd say they want the lids off is cause they are a different type of plastic and if the bottle and lid go into the shedder together it would mess up the batch.
