    Anyone going stateside soon? WalMart have $98 HDdvd players that are usualy $200+.

    With the current exchange rates: $98 = €67.92

    I'd say it would be worth the excess baggage charges. Would these work in Ireland if you had a plug adapter yoke?

    If anyone wants this, it will indeed need to be soon as they will probably be gone tomorrow.

    There are a few things to consider here first....

    US = 120volt, Ireland = 240volt

    NTSC/PAL issues, (unless the unit can HD on Both)

    Region code issues - Discs and the player itself.

    and of course... the bast*rds in customs.

    I would wait to be honest...

    wow - that's just a little more than a region free DVD player over here...

    I think the region code would be the biggest issue - not sure if you can unlock them yet.

    Still - no use to me, I won't be going near HD for now, won't be in the USA for the time being and don't have a HD TV!

    There is currently no region coding on HD-DVDs.

    Another thing to consider is which format will be around in the future, Blu Ray or HD DVD

    Selling players at knockdown prices, probably at a loss, would seem like a move to try and bolster HD DVD in the face of rising PS3 numbers to support BR.

    Quite possibly, my main concern would be ending up with obsolete discs which are in the losing format. I'm old enough to remember Beta vs VHS :)

    There is no NTSC or PAL when it comes to HD.
