Monitor Problem

    Hey all,

I'm having a problem with my monitor, the screen just goes black and the power to the monitor is still on. If i turn off the power to the monitor and turn it back on again the screen looks normal for 2-3 seconds and then goes black again, and keeps doing this no matter how many times i turn the monitor on or off. This happened 2 days ago, and sometimes the monitor will be grand and stay normal, but when i restart the computer it will go black again. I checked the plug from the monitor to the socket & vice versa and everything seems fine and checked the cable running from the monitor to the PC and everything seems fine there(checked everything for dust and see if anything was loose, all was ok). There was still no joy so last night i reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled windows etc and it seemed to work fine with no problems. Then today when i booted it up again the whole thing happened again.

Im just wondering whether theres any way that the monitor can be fixed or do you think its on its last legs?

    Cheers

It sounds similar to what I experienced a few weeks ago, monitor kept coming on, windows loaded but then screen just went blank again. I started in safe mode a few times and then enabled VGA mode on my last attempt, it worked and has been fine since then.

I had a similar problem a while ago and it was the backlight in the monitor (assuming its an LCD). Best way to test is borrow another computer or bring the monitor to a friends and plug it into their comp and see if the same happens....if so it's the monitor, if not its your computer.

Sounds more like a monitor problem. Try daemonic's suggestion.

Thanks guys, i tried the monitor with another computer in the house and the same thing happened so it would confirm that it's a problem with the monitor alright. What do you think the problem is?
