But there really wasn't much to it?

there was quite a bit actually
a lot of themes played out

    1. human traffic (not the crumby movie)
    2. power and the way it corrupts (final scene??)
    3. integration between cultures (russian and english)

i think it was quite a dense movie..one to watch again..

    I'll second this.

I really do want to see the film again myself, there really was a lot to it, I found.

People in the review thread seem to be clueless as to why Watts' character was so hell bent on getting justice for the dead girl.

I thought it was obvious it was because of the underlying effects of her losing her own baby while pregnant.

I liked it. I didn't think it was close to as good as A History of Violence, but that isn't too much of a criticism. I loved a History of Violence.

Man, Cronenberg makes violence look brutal.

Hmmm, I'm a fan of Cronenberg but I didn't like A History of Violence at all and I really wanted to see this. Do you think I'll be disappointed?

Well i enjoyed both, but found them both very different.

So I don't see why you wouldn't like this just cos you didn't like A History Of Violence.

I wasn't that impressed with History of Violence but I really liked Eastern Promises. A really absorbing film from the word go. Viggo M was class I thought, an understated but powerful performance. Wasn't sure where to look during that scene in the steam rooms though!! Thought Vincent Cassel over-acted a wee bit, but aside from that i'd highly recommend it..

There were extremely homo erotic undertones all over the movie i though, but that steam room scene was completely and utterly brutal, one of the best fight scenes i have seen in a long time.
As for the film itself i thought it was a great return to form for cronenberg.

Best film Ive seen in the cinema in a while now. Well acted across the board. One particularly stand out fight scene. Not to mention that it was refreshing to have a ganster movie that didn't have guns in it.
I did not need to see Aragorn's nut sack!

I really enjoyed the movie but it took me a little while to realise it. I was really looking forward to the movies as I enjoyed A History of Violence so much. So when I came out of the film I didn't think it was as good as A History...

But now I've had time to mull it over I am very happy with the movie. While not as good as their last movie (Cronenberg and Viggo M.) it was one of the best this year. That bathouse scene was incredible, an amazing piece of acting.

Just ordered the HD-DVD from Amazon, its released date has been moved up from the 26th Dec to 18th I think. Blind buying this as I think DC is class and have high hopes based on the comments & reviews I've read!
