Can anybody tell me if they know why Aer Lingus do not allow a family to use the web seat selection facility where the child is under 2?

well maybe because anyone sitting near exits has to be able bodied and this was the easiest way for them to prevent someone paying for these seats and then not being allowed to use them

Nothing to do with sitting near exits at all.

If the child is under 2, is he/she not meant to sit in parents lap?

Yes, the infant does have to sit with a parent on their lap...but why not allow access to the pre-seat selection option? I have just returned from a flight and because this option was unavailable it made the whole booking in phase real messy and lengthy. What's more I contacted Aer-Lingus beforehand to try and get something sorted and they never called me back after they saying they would.Nothing on the website about this in the FAQ and I cannot find a way of contacting them via e-mail on the website!
