    Hi all,
As a classic car owner dry storage space is a commodity that seems hard to find. My mate, a fellow classic car owner who runs an Auto upholstery business is looking at the possibility of moving to a bigger unit. This may provide for the availability of small amount of car spaces. We are located in the Waterford /South Kilkenny area.
Is there anybody interested in availing of any of these spaces????

    hi rambler,
I was looking into this about a year ago, basically i have some space at home, in a good secure location out of town. i was thinking about building a custom warehouse/shed to store vintage and classics, with a service area available to the owners to work on same(lift, pit, air, and a few other basic bits and pieces). possibly another part to store boats for the winter.got little feedback on either so i didnt progress it any further.
    best of luck though!

You might have better luck in the Classic Cars forum.

This sounds like exactly what I'd be looking for. Where were you thinking of setting it up and how angry are you?

I've heard of this a few times, not just from classic car owners but modified car owners too (I have both). A few lads have been talking about setting up a co-op where we'd rent out some space and buy some shared tools. Nobody's ever been willing to put the work in to get it off the ground. You'd think it'd be simple enough to do, but if you're too informal you might have hassle collecting money off lads. In this day and age you'd probably have to be properly insured be worried about getting sued too.

Thanks for the interest we are a couple of miles from Waterford City, well outside your range.

I looked at that as abusiness but the Insurance went absolutely crazy when I mentioned owners could work on their cars !

It was non runner after that !

    Excellent idea though !

have you looked into a waiver?
i know a go kart track where i used to go, you sign a waiver to declare you are driving at your own risk. after that they are covered.
would the insurance work out the same?

regrding the tools, a multistack box is under 1000, tools can checked after use by making sure all the trays are full.

Keep me informed if you ever do look into it again? I'm in Cork but it could still be worth my while.

I heard those waivers aren't foolproof. I think you can still be sued if you're seen to be in any way negligent. If you make everyone take a basic workshop safety course, wear proper clothing and only use tools they've been trained to use you might be alright. There's never any guarantees though....

You wouldn't need to supply the tools, most would be more than happy with just a dry secure space to work in, too much hassle chasing people to look after tools that don't belong to them.
Where do you draw the line though, welding, grinding, painting.....?

There are similar schemes in the UK where you can hire by the hour a lift or pit etc.

btw those waivers aren't worth the few grams of Cannon inket cartridge wasted on them - if they are negligent its worthless (say a brake failure die to lack of maintenance)... all it does it focus the customers mind that they have some responsibility for their own actions.
