I thought you needed a passport for to use that facility.
My brother is travelling early in the morning and he got the following in an email from them as part of their reminder mail...

"You can check in online for your flight from 2 days up to 4 hours prior to your scheduled flight departure time. By checking-in online you will save time at the airport, as you can bypass the check-in queue & go directly to the boarding gate.

Online check-in can be used by passengers travelling with hand luggage ONLY, presenting a valid EU/EEA passport or a valid Government issued EEA National Identity Card, matching the document details printed on their Check N’Go boarding pass, at both airport security and the departure gate."

I put the word or in bold there as that clearly means you dont need a passport to use it.
    The flight is to edinburgh.
In the list of acceptable picture id's in the accompaning link, there is the driving licence.

Can any one confirm this and who does he ring to get this confirmed or will the online check in process just ask for a passport number and not proceed without it?

    Cheers

I wanted to do online checkin during the summer to travel to the UK but didnt have my passport and it wouldn;t let me use my driving license, unless they've changed the rules...AGAIN!

He would need a passport as Ireland doesn't have national ID cards. Are you sure the picture is a driving licence, and not of the national ID card's the likes of which are issued in France etc?

Most EEA issued national cards have a Machine Readable Zone ( the >>>IRL>>>0512933>>> type thing) and they can be used for flights within the Schengen area. The e-mail you got was a standard mail out

As above Ireland do not issue national ID cards.

Just on this. If I book a weekend in London (for example) and use the online check in for the outward journey, will I be charged to check in on the homeward journey, if I can't get access to internet and printer?

    Online Check-In Conditions:

    * Each passenger must present a valid EU/EEA issued passport or a valid Government issued National Identity Card issued by a European Economic Area (EEA) country which matches the document details printed on their Check N’Go boarding pass, at both airport security and the departure gate (driving licence not accepted).

Thanks Lynchie, thats buried neatly in the terms and conditions of online check in which most people wouldnt bother reading.

The confirmation email gave a completely indifferent impression on this which is the reason for the confusion.

    Thanks ryan air,theres a few reasons why I don't fly with you:rolleyes:

My mate got stung with this a couple of months back on a flight to Scotland. He done the online checkin but did not bring his passport with him to the airport. He was turned back at the boarding gate and not allowed on the flight because of no passport.
