    Hey all,

The DV power jack in my laptop has become loose and it is now next to impossible to get it to charge.

I'm comfortable messing around with hardware and all that jazz but I've never replaced a power jack before.

Has anyone got any experience of this before? How hard is it to do?

I just replaced the DC power jack on my power supply for my laptop - Maplins do all the necessary sizes. Fiddly to solder but done in 1/2 hour.

If you mean the socket in the laptop itself then I don't know how to get at it but Maplins will stock these also.

yeah if its the socket on the laptop it will usually involve taking the laptop apart to remove the motherboard or whatever the socket sits on, then resoldering the connection or getting a new one to solder on, an awkward thing to fix

I've done quite a few. It can be tricky to do but possible if you are handy with a soldering iron. Possibility of damaging the motherboard when removing the old unit is a big issue. It also requires the motherboard to be removed from the unit, that can be time consuming but not difficult.

    Hi lads,

I found a guy in the UK that's going to repair it for £80.....I thinks it's a bit risky doing it myself.

    Thanks for the advice!

    Are you on crack?
    How many have you replaced?
Half an hour? If I told a customer come back in half an hour I'll have your power jack replaced and re-soldered (on any particular make/model) of laptop I'd have my self commited.
Longer drawn out process, disassembling any laptop to get access to that part is more than half hour alone. Can be worth trying but 9/10 it doesn't work properly or doesn't last more than a month.
But sure it's only a simple job....

Is that £80 including shipping? If so then fair enough. If not then it should be possible to get it done cheaper in Ireland.
